Apparently, they cost £500 each to produce and everyone who carries one can pay £200 to keep it afterwards. There's thousands of them. It's a great privilege to carry one and I'm sure almost everyone who carries one will take up the option to buy it and will treasure it as a momento for the rest of their lives. Or will they... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/London-20...A&otn=10&pmod=330735828718%2B330735828718&po= One's already been sold on ebay for £150k.
and if you kept it, would it end up in the garage with all the other s h i t e you ve collected over the years? i know i would. hardly a lounge ornament
Erm thats an auction for a photo, not a torch... Am I missing something or being really dense? I hate thinking people are laughing at me...
Exactly my thought imagine the winnings bidders face when they realise they have bought a photo for 30k plus
Gotta be a pi$$take at over £30k now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/London-20...clk_rvr_id=344942513595&afsrc=1#ht_500wt_1287
i just can't wait for my old teacher to run it through bev, anyone who went to wolfreton in the last 30 years (or who has a kid who did) must know of nicholbanger (mr nicholson), what a legend! please log in to view this image
holy moly he fully deserves that as well .. ffs he is about 150 yr old now .. really happy to hear this !
Nicholbanger was unreal, he couldnt speak properly yet he was fluent in 5 languages and could teach any subject and im pretty sure he lived in his car.
It is deffo for a photo, they have even said in answers to questions it is a photo, people are ****ing ******ed to bid on it
This has made my day! Also, he's not THAT old apparently. I heard from a reliable source that his speech and look were due to a condition he has. If that's true it'll explain why he looks exactly the same in that photo as he did 15 years ago. Did it say in the article how old he was? If he's mid 60's then fair enough, my argument goes out the window because he probably looked relatively the same at 50. Still, utter legend! Are there any more Wolfreton legends who're still there now?
No, it was created by the guy cited as the founder of the modern olympics Coubertin before the first world war. With the true olympic ideal in mind, Coubertin himself won a gold medal. Have a guess what for.... Answer below. . . Literature. He wrote a poem, Ode to Sport. It was entered in both French and German versions though. Maybe it loses something in the translation but I can't help wondering how bad the competitors were. “O Sport, You are Peace! You forge happy bonds between the peoples by drawing them together in reverence for strength which is controlled, organised and self disciplined. Trough you the young of the entire world learn to respect one another, and thus the diversity of national traits becomes a source of generous and peaceful emulation! “
I always thought it was literally 1 torch that travelled the world. What a load of ****e & waste of money!
I have to admit that I thought it was the same torch too, until a few weeks ago. Is it the same "flame" since however many years ago? Or do they just ask someone in the crowd for a lighter every 4 years?
I'm assuming that either that poem has has lost something in translation, or nobody else entered, it's a shocker.
Nicholbanger's 64 http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=michael-nicholson-5775/ I couldn't tell you which teachers are still there tbh. I only found out about him running the torch because of facebook http://www.facebook.com/events/136320076495054/
