In recent years at NUFC no player divided opinions amongst fans more than Shola Ameobi. The Newcastle born Nigerian international is in the best form of his career having played a big part in our promotion back to the premiership and helping fill the void after Andy Carroll's departure. Shola has always showed glimpses of what he can do - he is a talented player, however he is often labelled as lazy due to his languid style. Shola loves the club and the city and this is important to us the fans however I feel he will never have the ability to be the clubs number one striker. He has the physical attributes to bully opposition defenders - like he did against Wolves, and he also has a trick up his sleeve - but being able to deliver this on a regular basis as always been Ameobi's problem. He is worth keeping at the club as a squad player. Pardew today claimed the Shola is as good as any of the forwards he had worked with. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s as good a striker Iââ¬â¢ve ever worked with and he should take confidence from that because Iââ¬â¢ve worked with a few good ââ¬â¢uns ââ¬â Bobby Zamora, Tévez, Marlon Harewood, Sheringham,ââ¬Â said Pardew, following what he called a ââ¬Åmagnificentââ¬Â display against Wolves ââ¬ÅEvery game Shola has played for me, heââ¬â¢s been excellent. Perhaps he hasnââ¬â¢t always been at his best, but he was fantastic for me against Wolves. It was a top, top performance. Shola talks well in the dressing room, he inspires players.ââ¬Â I am all for Pardew building up the players, however I am sure Pardew is the only person in the world that would put Shola in the same category as Tevez and Teddy Sheringham. It also worries me slightly that Pardew is starting to believe that Shola is capable of being the clubs number 9. For me Lovenkrands should be sold, Ranger should be loaned out, Best and Ameobi should be squad players who back up two new forward signings. http://mykindoftoon.blogspot.com/
I think Shola gets a lot of unfair criticism. Very good first team player in the championship, decent squad player in the prem. He's been around for so long it would be wierd if he left!
I'd rather he not be number 9 but I dont think i'd be too bothered if Shola was given the shirt, provided we signed a new striker and shola was used as backup. It'd be odd not having the number 9 as the regular striker but at least we'd be sure that shola would wear it with pride and he'd not ditch it a few months after being given it.
I never want him to leave. To be honest, I don't think Shola would accept the no.9. He knows the importance of the shirt, and besides, he's made the number 23 what it is today!
I feel that come a nuclear apocalypse; Shola will still be at SJP. Thousands of years in the future when archaeologists are unearthing a large temple in the ancient capital city of Newcastle they will assume that it was devoted to a demi god named Shola; the scourge of the Mackems.
Ameobi is a Legend. Andy Carroll can only dream of being as good as him. it dosn't matter how good a player is if he's not loyal to the club then he's no good, Shola is loyal Can't think of any player i'd rather have, Shola is one of the best.
Sorry, I will not change the opinion that I have expressed previously about Shola, he has had far too many opportunities to produce the form that he should be capable of, he is big, powerful, can score, highly experienced and has played with the best striker of the premiership era. For me he has frustrated more than elated, he has squandered his potential as given real focus and desire he could have been an exceptional striker with a successful international career, Nolan plays with a real desire and anticipates in a way that Shola can't seem to, hence Nolan is top scorer, also you'd think he might actually have learnt about the offside laws by now.
he is a great squad player in the premiership but not gonna get many goals. he has failed to live up to expectations. he leads the line well and usually gives his all. but on many occasions he doesnt really look up for it. i think any team in the championship would have him but not many in the premiership. i dont think he will ever leave newcastle unless we pushed him out
He's the Drogba of the championship, he's an average PL player. He's a good target man. Good cover and a good impact player certainly. We should aim to buy more quality players than him, but he'd be ok cover
