Gutted about yesterday. Messes up our transfer plans and the new stadium finances. Modric can go if he wants... Bale has to stay.. However, it may not be as prestigious as the Champions League, but it's still a European trophy. If, in his words, finishing 4th is 'over achieving' and 'punching above our weight' then Redknapp should be taking this competition seriously. Anyway, Athletico didn't look too disappointed.. http://mrsport.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/europa-league-atletico.jpg
Spot on. I know there's nowhere near as much money involved, but why can't we focus on the glory of winning a trophy for a change, rather than dwelling on the financial implications of missing out on the CL (which we would never win anyway). Football's too centered around finances unfortunately; I want to see my club win some silverware. As a 90's Spurs fan I've only ever seen us win 2 league cups, so IMO there's no shame in competing to win a European trophy, as some rival supporters would have us believe. Yes, it's sickening. This summer could have been quite special and now that's gone to pot. But we move on, we're in the Europa League now.. so why not go out and try to win the bloody thing !!! COYS
spot on......every one who loves football should be thinking like you Calderwood..however it is all about the money..your right though...if he thinks we are above our station then dont belittle something that is good enough for us!! forever fooling the fans!
Waddo- that's because your season started in July and, without being disrespectful, Stoke don't have the squad depth to cope with such a long season. Having said that I know what you mean, but as Calderwood said its still a trophy and its something to win.
Perryman the only good thing for us was that the fans got to go to some places that we could only dream of. I think that the way Pulis through the towel in at Valencia also made it feel worthless. Good luck to Spurs all the same!
The Europa League only needs a couple of minor changes to become worthwhile again, but the powers that be don't seem interested, frankly. Remove the ridiculous Champions League dropdown, which doesn't interest most sides that experience it and doesn't offer much of a financial buffer, anyway. Switch the ties to alternate weeks with the Champions League, playing games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, leaving most weekend fixtures untouched. The financial side could do with a little work too, but that might come naturally if it became a more interesting tournament.
