The Bayern Munich centre forward may have scored goals in the German League, but he has shown to be pish in the Champions League, especially in the semi finals and tonight in the final, so my question is are footballers really actually ****e, with one or two just lucky?
You're really thinking outside the box here, you could be spot on. Maybe Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and co are also just lucky too and the likes of Carlton Palmer and Geoff Thomas were just unlucky! Even we're a quality team and just have had some bad luck and the other teams ride their luck more. But the big question is how do we get lucky???
I'm not talking about the midgets in football, those players who are closer to the grass than is classed as being "normal", I mean players who have been given some kind of media worship as being "the next best thing" when in actual fact they are pretty pish. Would anyone really want Gomez on the evidence of his performances in the Champions League? Yet this guy apparently is worth millions of euros on the transfer market, for what? I could miss from 2 yds, even if I am 18 stone and 6 foot 3 inches tall and nearly 50.
Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 2003–2005 VfB Stuttgart II 43 (21) 2003–2009 VfB Stuttgart 121 (63) 2009– Bayern Munich 94 (64) I don't think he's the best forward in the world, but those figures are the reason why he's valued at millions of pounds. Granted he didn't look great tonight, but he has 12 goals in the champions league this season, second only to Messi. And his international record is 21 in 51. I'd imagine most people would take Gomez based on that!
Agreed, that's why no player scored more goals from open play in the Champions League than him this season.
Couldn't care less about the group stages, I would expect a player in the German League to score then. The knock out stages has shown him to be well below average, and both the semi final v Madrid and tonight v Chelsea, he was utterly drivel.
Agreed, like when he scored four against Basel when Bayern recorded the biggest ever win in the knockout stages of the Champions League (7-0)
Basel must have been fecking dire if he scored against them, he has no real ability and last night he was by far the worst player on the field, as he was in both legs of the semi finals v Madrid. Hooper scored 5 goals for Celtic against Hearts last weekend, doesn't make him the greatest striker in the game and worth millions and millions.
Hooper's never played in the top division in any league bar Scotland. Never been capped at international level and (I don't believe) has never played in the knock out stages of the champions league (I don't think he's even played in the group stages, I could be wrong though!). I don't believe Gomez is the best striker in the world, he's not the most clinical finisher in the world that's for sure, but you can't argue against that strike record.
