what i will say is that there are considerable reports suggesting solskjaer has turned down the post. tin hats at the ready gentlemen...
Makes you wonder, Martinez last season and solskjaer this summer turning them down. There must be a big reason why managers are turning them down! Yes the daily star has said about lambert talks but another paper the other day said he had already been approached and turned it down.
It would be crazy to go to Villa these days. The O'neil situation sent out lots of messages to any future manager. The fans think it's still a massive club and expect big things but the owner will not give any manager the funds to manage such high expectations so the manager ends up under performing and getting the sack. You would have to be mad to take it on, honestly. Some of their fans are almost as deluded as some of Liverpool's.
In some ways I believe Lerner is being sensible. Remember he's an American sports owner and they are forever going on strike or making demands over there. But they toe the line as an association, unlike over here where they break ranks to suit themselves. He isn't going to throw money at a system that is continuing to spiral out of control on transfer fees and wages. While I was in New York I was speaking to Giants fans. They were very successful last year winning the Superbowl. But for a 8 game season they pay $3000 for a season ticket. Mind you the guy said to me, none of our fans are missing any meals to pay for the ticket. Is this what we want our game to finish up as? I hope others join Lerner and say NO to excess.
agree redruth. i believe randy lerner is attempting to run villa the correct way. he initially went down the 'throw money at it' route and it didn't really work, unless you think europa league qualification and a league cup defeat is success. i don't think the villa fans have quite understood what he aiming is to do. mike ashley at newcastle got enormous grief from their fans for doing likewise. i wonder if he gets the same grief now its worked? i too hope other owners go down the route that we ourselves are promoting. i doubt however, that this will be the case for many of the teams at the top and thats why villa will continue to be left behind and struggle on the pitch. their biggest problem is that apart from darren bent they have very little in the way of assets. given and agbonlahor too maybe but they need funds to turn their team around and the only way to do that is by selling first. they already start from a poor position so i really think they'll struggle again next season, no matter who the manager is
It seems there is no a big move by all clubs that don't have unlimited funds to concentrate on running the club in the correct manner. You look at the sides coming up in recent years Reading, Swansea, Southampton and ourselves have all achieved promotion without spending vast sums and keeping finances in check. In the prem sides who have overachieved id you like Newcastle, Fulham, Everton etc all very well run clubs on and off the pitch. The time for mid sized clubs to launch money at any problems may be coming to an end.
