True you were better than us in the league but then we had to manage Europe as well as the League where as your lot pretty much threw away Europe.

Out of 4 competitions, we out performed you in 3, winning 1 trophy and maybe even old big ears too on Saturday. We're the better team.

    Gifted the game...brilliant.

It helped no doubt but we scored 5 at the end of the day. Still if it makes you sleep easy, you hang on to it.

The title of this thread made me sick a bit in my mouth.

I couldn't bear it if they won as I know some proper smug Chelsea fans who are saying it will be the best day ever. I think some of them want to win it more to cost us a spot rather than actually winning the trophy.

    Come on Munich !!!

I would love Chelsea to win the CL.

I don't hate Spurs or Chelsea, they are meaningless clubs to me but they are English and over my dead body would I support a German side against an English team (albeit full of foreigners) if I am neutral. I can fully understand why Spurs want Chelsea to fail, I would be thinking the exact same if the outcome affected United.

So I'll get behind Drogba and co (whoever isn't suspended) and hope that they can embarrass that horrible lot on their own turf, because for all the "Drogba is a cheat" haters out there, you need to wake up and realise that Barca have been coinciding a lot of cheating with their tiki-taka (Busquets, Mascherano, Pedro for starters) style of play which has helped them achieve such greatness. The same can be said for the Bayern team consisting of two of the biggest cheats in the game, Robben and Ribery.

Terry_H... I'm under no illusions that there are cheaters out there equal or greater than Drogba. I don't like them either. And I certainly don't exclude Barca from that simply because we're all supposed to love them. The Barca/Real games are quite embarrassing!

That's just typical Spanish football, I'm afraid. They all do it. Barca are no better or worse, in that aspect, than any other La Liga team.

Hang on...are people implying that diving isn't endemic in the English game?

i hope not HBIC..i think the old sky 4 own the rights for diving aswell as making significant financial contributions to diving pools up and down the country.

That's what always got me - the columnists/pundits are always quick to criticise non-English players diving, yet were always turning a blind eye to Shearer, Owen, Scholes, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard et al.

Cheating is cheating, regardless of what it says on your passport.

To get back to the OP, I think the idea of Chelski as champions of Europe highlights a lot of what is wrong with the whole CL concept. What is being said is that the team that could only finish 6th in the Premier League are "champions" of all the teams in Europe, which is patently ridiculous. At the very least they should have to win their own league to be considered that! Then there's the fact that most of the teams that take part in the CL competition aren't even champions of their leagues anyway.

This competition injects so much money in the short term, but also into a relatively small number of clubs, who all end up chasing the same talent and paying ridiculous wages. This is *not* good for football in the long term, but nobody in power cares about that as they just point to how well football is doing under their leadership, because they'll be gone when the whole thing implodes. Sure you can keep it going by the influx of money into clubs by such as Etihad City, but then you daren't really impose proper fair play rules in case you choke off such investment. I'm wondering if its not the football equivalent of the conditions leading up to the 2008 financial crisis, where all these clever educated people and their financial models seemed to be completely surprised that it was unsustainable, despite many obvious warnings.

There's a flaw in your argument here. Qualification is based on last season. So a team has always had the potential to win the tournament and end up down the league in the same season. They didn't qualify from 6th. Liverpool won it and finished 5th in the same season. It's strange but highly possible.

There might be a flaw in this argument but it is a very tiny one and not relevant. Chelsea did not win the PL last season and were not Champions yet they are playing in a league called just that. 2nd to 6th to 18th academic!, NOT 1st. and that's the point. Therefore vimhawks argument stands and it's a good one IMO. <ok>
