I worked in wolverhampton for a year - its a horrendous place only beaten by Birmingham - its the same travel time to get out of the city to decent countryside as it is in the NE, and they dont have a seaside. Plus the worst accent in the UK. I couldn't get out soon enough.
He does have relations who live in the northumberland. Maybe they didnt paint a good picture of the region and talked him out of it.
Wolverhampton is a dump, but I do go there a lot to see bands play. The music scene there is quite good. I've been coming to Birmingham since the mid 80's, and back then it was truly awful. It must have been the only place in the country where you couldn't get in a single pub in the center if you had jeans on. And when you could get in a pub, the slop they served for beer you'd wonder why you bothered. However, it's been regenerated a load over the last 15-20 years and I'd say now it's actually quite a nice place. However, if I could get an equivalent job back in the North East, I'd be back in a shot. As it is I'll be looking forward to maybe retiring back there.
Chances are this is not made up, because it just seems like too much of a non-story to publish if it's made up. To be fair to the lad though, he hasn't said the NE is a dump so I can't see why you're all kicking off saying your local village is wonderful! Chances are, even if the entire area was a dump, he'd just commute from somewhere a bit nicer; a commute isn't all too bad if you're driving a £250k sports car. Chances are, he's got options open to him closer to home, he might just want to stick around and help his club get promoted and if that's the case you can't knock him for his loyalty.
My lass is from Wolverhampton and she openly admits it's up there with the grimmest places to live in the country. Can't believe the bloke wouldn't want to move to an established, progressive Premiership team with a nationally respected manager after playing for circuses like Wolves and Burnley. He is a good player but if he wants to chase the 'bright lights' in London and play for QPR/Fulham/West Ham then bollocks to him, I'm sure MON has a back up plan anyway. The bastard will definitely score at least twice against us next season though unless he joins...
Must be the Village then mate. The Colliery is a bit grim. Mind you, it's nowhere near as bad as the Midlands. What's the bloke thinking about? There's some beautiful parts of the North East.
Just a guess like, but i doubt very much that a prem player is remotely interested at looking at a few hills and fields, or taking a stroll along a wind swept beach....
Until I see him in a Fulham shirt and giving am interview stating the NE is a cak hole, I will reserve judgement. We might not even be in for him at all. His linking to us is driven by the fans and the media, not Mon.
Everyone seems to be slagging the Mail off but I guarantee if the headlines tomorrow say , Hoillett , Kone , and Johnson to sign for MON the vast majority on here will be gushing all over it like a rash.
If the Daily Snail had headlines Cest shags Cheryl Cole, in the Hilton Hotel while she is in her Sunderland top, I wouldn't be gushing about it.................................... I'd be friggin ecstatic if it were true though. Lol
Do you think he actually lives in Wolverhampton, the West Midlands is a big area, places around Staffordshire and Worcestershire are truly lovely places to live, plus he may have a family not too mention other options. Should we take it so personally?
POTENTIAL Sunderland targets Steven Fletcher and Kevin Davies have both indicated they might stay at their current clubs next season, ruling out possible moves to Wearside. But, with a long summer ahead, the Black Cats will not be too put off by the noises coming from the camps of two strikers still smarting from their relegations with Wolves and Bolton respectively. Club captain Davies has suggested he might stay at the Reebok and help Bolton earn an instant promotion back to the Premier League next season. But with the Lancashire club carrying a huge amount of debt, the Trotters might be keen to offload one of their highest earners, especially as manager Owen Coyle is committed to developing a youthful squad â a plan the 35-year-old would not come into. Ex-Burnley and Hibs star Fletcher, meanwhile, was said today to have decided he does not fancy a move to Sunderland. That will please Wolves, who have run a tight ship financially and insist they are under no pressure to sell any of their players in the wake of demotion. Fletcher and Davies are two players who interest Sunderland manager Martin OâNeill as he looks, as a matter of urgency, to strengthen his strikeforce this summer. The Black Cats have also been credited with interest in Huddersfield Townâs prolific Scotland international striker Jordan Rhodes, as well as Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha. As well as players coming into the club, Sunderland are also looking at players leaving with a retained list set to be announced shortly. Sunderland will not be taking up options on any of last seasonâs loan players â Nicklas Bendtner, Sotorios Kyrgiakos and Wayne Bridge â while £9million keeper Craig Gordon is set to leave on a Bosman. Ahmed Elmohamady has been linked with a possible move to West Ham United and that could happen, but only if the Londoners are promoted via tomorrowâs play-off final against Blackpool. Elmohamady is insistent privately that he will not play below Premier League level and will see out the remaining two years of his Sunderland contract unless another Premier League club come in for him
Find this interesting. It kills me to go back to Sunderland, though I love it, most of the city centre is a dive. Sincere apologies to anyone offended. I love the coast, I love the people, I love the pit villages and the country but 'Sunderland' itself is a hole in general. If he was in London, Manchester, Liverpool or Barcelona I'd understand him. But Wolverhampton? What a ****ing hole. If true he can **** himself.
Are you taking the proverbial kidda? Manchester & Liverpool? Two grimy **** tips likened to a fabulously attractive city such as Barcelona? I've actually wet myself laughing at that as you must surely be joking of course? Anyway, Durham City is one of the best small cities in the country; Newcastle (where a lot of footballers live) is a multi cultural centre; The coastline of the NE is amazing; the countryside for miles and miles around it is fantastic and then there is Wynyard Hall Estate a few miles south. Sunderland City centre is definately in desperate need of major refurbishment for sure and there are plans to do so but footballers wont be living in Sunderland, just playing football there, so its a complete red herring argument anyway.
