    A nice bloke, yes.

But as a manager? He's has 3 seasons of scraping away from relegation..... Oh wait... He'll be perfect for next season then.

**** a duck. I don't want either Capello or Martinez there, far too good. Let them go back to Rafa like they all want. The end of his reign was the beginning of their problems. Maybe he can pick up where he left off. Capello would be almost guaranteed success/improvement, and Martinez/Rodgers/Lambert are too good as far as the young managers go.

It's a strange one as most Liverpool fans aren't keen on Martinez. Personally I'd love to give him a chance, he's young, ambitious, plays a great brand of attacking football, extremely knowledgeable about the game. I see him as the perfect man for the job - especially if FSG are looking for a long term successor.

Lets face it Wigan are a pretty dire team and without Martinez they would have been relegated a couple of years back. With the financial backing of the owners he could do wonders at Liverpool - especially as it's looking likely we're getting a quality DOF to work alongside him.

Yes it's a risk, but for me certainly a risk worth taking.

Martinez is like a breath of fresh air among managers, young, keen, loves what he's doing. Given the opportunity I'm sure he'd do well at any club.

Exactly. The trouble is some Liverpool fans want the cream of the crop old round the block managers. I would much prefer a man like Martinez that could stick around for years and bring a new mentality to the club.

I honestly think he's ready for the step up, and would handle the pressure that being a Liverpool manager brings.

Liverpool is a poisoned chalice for any manager as a lot of their fans want a bigname or a former great. I hope Martinez doesn't go there especially since it seems that a lot of their fans don't want him. Another potential Roy Hodgson situation.

It's not the end of the world for them, there are plenty of able candidates left: Alardyce, Souness, Gullit and so forth.

And maybe they can seize some of that yankee know-how, and reprogram Moyes's brain so he will manage them to a finish above Everton.

If Fat Sham is given a proper chance he could work miracles for any club.

That's what he says so it must be true.

Haha. So let it be written, so let it be done. Obviously he could take Liverpool to Champions league glory. Right after I've finished giving Cheryl Cole one. (And it's more likely I'm going to give Cheryl one).

A large amount of Liverpool fans embarrassing themselves as well after that.

Liverpool fans really are so far up their own arse and deluded.

They seem to think every manager wants to manage Liverpool, and cannot take it if someone doesn't want to even attempt to manage them. They are giving reasons such as "he knows he is out of his depth so doesn't want to get a big job yet".

No, Scousers, he just doesn't want to manage you.

I think Martinez would be great for Liverpool, so long as the fans GIVE HIM TIME!

I think a lot of Liverpool fans are expecting a new manager to come in and have them competing for a Champions League spot, that's not going to happen without it being a shock to us all.

They have some big players who need replacing, Gerrard needs replacing long-term, Adam is not the man to do it. Carroll's form may be picking up but Torres still hasn't been replaced (though Suarez is giving it a fair go). If Martinez comes in he will want his own team, that means rebuilding whilst finishing in the top8.

I somehow feel Liverpool and the media would not be happy with 8th, even if by doing so, finances were stabilised and youth was introduced and Martinez would be branded a failure. He doesn't deserve that.

Really, Liverpool need to look at Newcastle to see how to improve. They are essentially in the same position as we were (though admittedly with a little more silverwear). We were a European club, we overspent on dross, we went down. We cut the wagebill and got behind our manager as fans as we then secured safety after promotion. We didn't chase Hughton out for being midtable but we brought in a new manager and now we're a much fitter club for it.

We could have kept throwing money at the problem and avoided relegation but instead we were patient and rebuilt (though our winning ways in the Championship certainly bought Hughton more time).

Liverpool fans need to look beyond next season and allow a manager to change the club for long term success. Until they do that, they'll never really be happy.

I agree with almost all the comments here. Embarrassing how some of our fans are moaning about it especially on Twatter, but then again all those on there seem like right glory hunting numpties. Think Martinez would be a breath of fresh air. He's humble, takes his job seriously and puts it above himself, plays a wonderful game, is young and has the Spanish connection. Would much rather him than some old stubborn egotist like Capello
