If the 2nd highest spanish goalscorer in LaLiga played for Espanyol would they not take him because he doesn't play for Barca/Real

Of course they would, because England are a joke.

Of Spain haven't selected their squad yet do you think they would take Torres despite the fact he's only had one or two good games this season? I don't think so.

Absolutely correct and the same logic would apply to Germany and France. They pick players on merit. The way the England national team picks players is pretty ****ed up.

But I'm SO Happy for Ruddy, I feel like I've been shagged then kicked in the face. It's going to do his development so well. He hs what it takes to be a true great and he loves Norwich as well.

it does feel though, and even ruddy indicated as much, that he has only been picked 'by default' due to nobody else being up to it or available. never mind the fact he's been bloody great this season - oh, there's nobody else - stick him in then. its actually quite depressing.

Yeah I saw that, actually justifies Roys selection on that one

Although I do like Rio, but it's time to push on. I'm actualy pretty confident of our defence, so so confident we can score any goals

It wouldn't surprise me if we see a back 4 featuring Cahill, Terry and Cole. If 3 of your back 4 play together regularly, you'd think they'd already have a decent understanding. On the goals front I saw a worrying statistic. Huntelaar and Van Persie have 59 goals between them this season, all 4 of our strikes only managed 52, and if you remove Rooney for the first 2 games, then we start to look really short, sort of like we could do with a 15 goal a season striker, no?

Looking at the squad, I think Downing has cost Holt/Crouch a spot. I don't understand his selection at all. I'd play the Ox, Young, Walcott and Milner before I'd consider Downing, so why do we need a 5th choice winger when we've only got 3 strikers for 2/3rd of the tournament?

For all we know the selection could be inspired, but it just appears to make no sense.

Why oh why would you ever pick Andy Carroll over Peter Crouch or Grant Holt? Granted, Carroll's young, but he's hardly on form. He played well against Chelsea, twice. Woop de f***ing doo. When will we ever just take players on form? England isn't a club, you can chop and change as much as you like after a tournament. For now, though, why don't we just pick footballers who can actually play well for us RIGHT NOW?

Stewart Downing is another ridiculous selection. No goals and no assists all season? He's had a terrible year. Adam Johnson must be feeling sick right now. To be honest, I am too.

Oh, and Jordan Henderson as a reserve? You have to be ****ing kidding.

On the flip side, I'm happy with the choice of captaincy and am relieved that Ruddy has finally been given the recognition he deserves (not that he'll ever play, although Hart is miles better, it has to be said).

what always amazes me when people talk about johnson, is when they say 'he hasn't played much football'. he played 26 times in the league for the english champions last season and its not how many games he plays for them that counts, its what he does in them! he scores goals on a regular basis, even off the bench and generally makes things happen. 6 league goals and 6 assists by all accounts. not bad for a bit part player. should have been included, no question. where's our flair going to come from?

Good call from Hodgson to call up John Ruddy and fully deserved but how could he completely ignore Grant Holt? Appalling decision in my opinion. People talk about Carrol's form but what form would that be? He's done practically nothing all season! He simply doesn't deserve an England call up. Defoe and Welbeck havn't exactly set the world alight either. There's clear bias towards the big clubs but what's new? A lot of the old guard are still there and I really can't see England progressing very far in this tournament.
