Same theme, cheers Mabon, list 5 books and a brief description.....DON'T give the plot away...that we could read over the summer to remind us that there's more to life than Saturday afternoon 3pm. 1) Fyodor Dostoyevsky - Crime and Punishment Sort of like the first ever episode of Columbo 2) Irvine Welsh - Acid House Collection of short stories that are hilarious, moving and exciting. Read this and you'll read all of Welsh's stuff. It's good 3) Donna Tartt - The Secret History Dark murder mystery excellently written, has it's own atmosphere 4) Melvyn Bragg - Rich: The life of Richard Burton I long for the day when 25,000 of us turn up at the Liberty as pissed as Richard Burton 5) Gwyn Thomas - The Dark Philosophers Dark, very dark. Like being inside Dai Swan's head...but funnier. And grubbier. In fact altogether a more pleasant experience, allegedly.

The End of Mr Y - Scarlett Thomas - a great alternative way of looking at the world. Your brain will hurt from all the thinking it will force you into. Life after God - Douglas Coupland. Less of a narative, more a stream of consciousnes. My favourite book ever. The Book of Dave - Will Self. satire on religion, where a london taxi driver called dave inadvertantly ends up being a god in the future and people living by his views. The Throwback - Tom Sharpe. One of the funniest books i've ever read. I Partridge, Lets talk about Alan - The Alan Partridge autobiography. Didn't stop laughing all the way through The Game of Thrones books are amazing, and everyone should read Douglas Adams Hitchhiker books. Bit more than 5 books, there, but I love reading and got carried away.
