He said this on his twitter page - The Manager informed me after our testimonial match on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract. michael owen ‏@themichaelowen I have loved every minute of the 3 years I have spent at such a fantastic club. michael owen ‏@themichaelowen I would like to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish them well for the future. Thanks for the memories, especially that goal against Man City in the Manchester derby, he's been a wonderful professinal since's been with us, his attitude was top class, hopefully he stays in the premier league which i'm sure he will, also he has a premier league medal something that Liverpool players can't say, good luck to him in the future.
Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to Michael Owen's professionalism and talent following confirmation the striker is leaving Manchester United. The boss told his number seven he would not be offered a new contract when the pair were in Belfast for Harry Gregg's Testimonial match on Tuesday night. In what proved to be his final appearance for the Reds, Owen played the first hour of United's 4-1 win before being replaced by Wayne Rooney. Sir Alex told ManUtd.com: "It is a pleasure to have had Michael at Manchester United. Michael is a consummate professional and was an influential figure in our dressing room. Unfortunately he had no luck with his injury this season. "Michael’s record of goals per game is exceptional and we wish him all the best for the future." http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...339&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Playing in and winning the CL are two different things,he actually won more with us than Utd and we got the best football of his career while he was here. So no gripe with him except he signed for Utd
Fail. I heard from matth we've lined up Mourhino as our next manager, and matth's never ever wrong. Is he?
Ive heard from liverpool fans if only you could finish chances and not hit the woodwork you would have challenged for the title.... Maybe he can polish that turd of a strikeforce you have.
But he won the most important trophy in England after he left you, the premier league. Micheal Owen 1- 0 Gerrard
We didn't create chances, let alone finish them. Playing Park cost us that game, **** all to do with our strikers. Anyway, back on topic. Glad he's leaving as it means we have to sign a striker which means moves are a foot to sign players. Hopefully it won't be the only move in the market.
I still believe he's a good player. Sadly injuries have meant he never really got a sustained chance to show that. Has been used mainly as backup of course, but never once moaned about it and played well and with enthusiasm when he got the chance. Given the amount of times he was coming off the bench 17 goals in 52 games wasn't bad and we'll all remember the winner against city. Probably the right time to go, but i wish him all the best wherever he ends up.
