Gerrard has had another average year but because he's a 'big name' he's in. I wouldn't have picked him. Saying that I also wouldn't have picked Green, G Johnson, Barry, Downing or Defoe either.
i was all for the appointment of hodgson, and knew he would be in for stick no matter who he picked , especially the harry fans.. done himself no favours selecting downing ahead of johnson and sturridge tho..
Agree with Terry going - still our best CB. Someone said something in an earlier post about it being the same as taking Barton to the Euros. That is clearly the most bollocks ever spoken on this website. However, Downing in the squad and Henderson on standby...I really don't know why he's done that. Carrick ignored. I just think it's a boring squad and we'll play a brand of football not suited to us at international level, a kind of squeezing game. We need to attack down the flanks, IMO.
I think there are many who dont give a jot about England in the Euros. The apathy for it is running neck and neck alongside massive dis-interest. The squad that Roy has picked does not help nor offer help to increased interest either. ffs, how does Glenn Johnson, Baines and Downing get in when Jagielka, Micah Richards and Adam Johnson dont ? Oxlade-Chamberlain should have been left for the GB Olympic team, imo. Darren Bent says he is fit or will be soon So why not try him out in the 2 friendly games and test his fitness. Also, Grant Holt(Norwich) 2nd top PL English goal scorer has not had a look in either. With Rooney suspended who will get the goals ? Or is Roys tactics going to be go for 2 x 0-0 and win the 3rd group game when Rooney can play ? ffs, no wonder nobody has much faith or interest in England this summer.
I think i'd prefer Benson & Hedges in the England team than Walcott and Caroll.
I hate Terry far more than Barton - in fact I don't even hate the latter. Still, in terms of disruption I'd rather have Terry in the Euro squad than Barton. On a completely separate note, I don't see any needed for left footed players - it's left wingers we need, and Young beats Downing hands down.
Don't hate the player, hate the game! Or some such **** that a homie might say. Basically, what I'm saying is that yes, Terry is a ****. However, he also happens to our best centre back and, for my money, the most obvious captain. He's had a good season, he never puts in less than 100%. Can't be compared to someone like Barton for me, as Terry IS so much more. Barton is a run-of-the-mill, almost-something, lower end of the Premier League midfielder. Terry is outright leader of one of the most consistently successful teams in England for several years. A Premier League winner. To clarify - ****? Yes. Great player? Yes. Same category as Barton? Not in terms of ability, no. Just what I think.
Walcott might be a bit of a surprise factor for us if they play him down the middle but out wide, might aswell have Downing out there thats how invisible he can be. Carroll and Crouch, shows how lacking we are for forwards but Carroll shades it given his age and return to form. We need to survive Shreks suspension as there is no way he can play as bad as he did at the World Cup and he will be fresh
Just a couple thoughts: Rio Ferdinand is a constant liability. I heard Mancini say that A.Johnson was lazy every week. Maybe that's why people they him so much. Phil Jones is the most Overrated Player in the PL. Carroll will do well. Gerard is realistically the only player who should be captain. Downing isn't as bad as people claim him to be. Hodgson picked the most logical squad he could.
Agree Sturridge should be in. I would swap downing for Johnson, Downing is woeful. Looks like Carroll will start the first 2 games, wide men aplenty all trying to find his head with a decent cross......
Being a **** should not bar Terry from the squad, being too slow should. He was found wanting at the last world cup and is now two years older. I hope I am wrong and all the people who say he is our best defender are right, but I think he will struggle, Roy should have taken Dwaine Chambers to partner him get a bit of pace in the heart of defence.
Those were exactly my thoughts. Sturridge has not been in the best of form recently , but he is so flexible and has bucket-loads of pace, how anyone can fail to prefer him over Walcott is beyond me. As for Lennon, he has never really produced for England but neither has Downing and Lennon is surely on much better form this season.
He's just taken the safe option in case he fails! To be fair Woy will live and die by his decisions so lets just hope he proves us wrong
Less expectation this year, if we had appointed Redknapp then we would have been guaranteed to win Euro 2012 (Apparently!)
