I've defended him like mad this season, and he's a fantastic player, a proper beast, but his bookings are just disgraceful now.

I like it when he takes one for the team and gets stuck him, but he's got a few really silly ones, and how he's managed to go two seasons without a red card in a PL match is beyond me.

He's been unlucky but lucky also.

He really needs to learn when to make that body check or when to trip a player, when we really need to stop the opponent.

I don't think he's losing his temper or anything, but he's just learning when to do it and when not to do it, it's bad judgement really.

He's been out for a lot of the season and had bad injuries.

Hopefully he'll take the summer to learn from his mistakes and also to get his full fitness back.

the ref must of been scared of him, because how the hell he stayed on the pitch was amazing,

he booked him and about 40 seconds later he didnt book him for pretty much the same tackle type, then after that he had 4-5 sloppy tackles which he got away with,

good management by pardew taking him off a few mins after a sloppy tackle,

nowt like a knee jerk comment.
as you said... you've defended him like mad so overall he must have had a fairly reasonable season.....

It's over the course of two years mate. We all know Tiote is an immense player, but his disciplinary records over the last two years has been very poor.

You won't have to worry next season I suspect anyway! why nit pick at our better player mate. In the first 45 Everton should have gone down to 10 men and our lads didn't turn up apart from Colo and Krul.

Tash me and you have debated this many times over the last year or so. Its great you've come round to my way of thinking at last <laugh> Seriously though you know my thoughts on Cheik. Wouldn't sell him and think he is one of the best around. I just wonder what he could be if he improved his distrbution and cut out the silly yellow. His record over the last two seasons is shocking. 25 PL yellow cards in two seasons. There's being committed, and then there's being a bit of a fool!

Haha. The good thing about Cheick, though, is that he doesn't let him temper take over and do something REALLY bad.

He does silly little things from bad judgement, things which can be worked on.

He's never lost his temper and did something really dirty worth of a red or disciplinary action.

He's clumsy and over zealous. There is no malice in the things he does. He's not Barton. Its persistent fouling as much as anything else.

I actually think in the majority of his games Tiote plays better when on a yellow card, hes usually more careful about what hes doing and doesn't make as many silly mistakes, yesterday was not one of those games but still.

    Going from memory:

Scott Parker: 9 yellows, 1 red - Captain of the English team.

    Cheick: 10 yellows.

Not saying that he can't show a little bit more discretion. But at the end of the day it's where and how he plays.

    True stuff.

Also hes immediately targeted by refs now because of his tough tackling reputation and tendency to the occasional rash challenge, hes received plenty of yellows this season early on in games that were never yellow cards.

You can't just take a season in isolation to build up the picture though. Parker has 85 yellows in 317 PL apps. 5 reds. Not even a yellow every 3 games. Cheik is 25 yellows in 50. No reds but I think we'd all agree we're not sure how! That's a yellow every other game! To put it down to where and how he plays is not an excuse. He is being booked way too often and its a hinderance to the team. You also have to look why he is getting booked. Far too often its in situations where he has no hope of getting the ball but he just can't stop himself. If he really wants to be one of the best, he'll have to adjust.

Don't get me wrong I love the guy and rate him really highly. I wouldn't sell him and think he is a big part of what we have going. He has to change though if he wants to improve.

At least he's consistent. He gives the ball away all the time, and has been shocking in all but one of our last 8 games. He's believing his own 'hype' if you ask me. His passing has been nothing short of sunday league and his 'spin around in our own half and give the ball away' trick is becoming tiresome. Not knee-jerk, I've said this after almost all our recent games.

    What a crock of ****e.

He makes mistakes, but 4 passes out of 5 he finds the man, and he doesn't give the ball away that often.

I'm hoping it's this kind of consistency which might put off the bigger teams coming in for him.

There's that, and the fact that he doesn't do enough creatively. Some of his crosses at the start of the season were great, but he hardly ever gets in a position to make them. He should probably be looking to get three or four goals a season, really.

Thing with Cheik is that when he does give the ball away it's in a terrible position. Like right in front of our box and around the centre circle.

His distribution is undoubtedly his other area requiring work. I think he has it in him to improve more and iron out the distribution and yellow card issues. He justs needs to be a bit more considered in his approach to both.

Hardly anything to worry about but every player should be looking to improve whether 16 or 35.

Referees are always very quick to book Tiote early on in games and he has had a lot of yellows that were never yellows.

There is some utterly unjustified, harsh criticism of Tiote on here. I'll assume alot of you will be happy to see him sold in the summer?
