It's just a matter of closing down a little faster and getting a tackle in before attackers get into a dangerous position, he does stand off a bit too much, definitely enough room to get off a shot or knock it past him, dangerous in and around the box.

I think he has the makings of a very good full back, I'm sure he does exactly what he s told in terms of attacking, if he isn't bombing on it's because Pards has told him so.

He is extremely over rated by most of our fans, mostly just because he seems like a good bloke and one of the lads, and he probably is, but it doesnt get rid of the fact that hes an average fullback, hes sometimes good in the tackle and is alright linking up with Barton on the wing, but hes often caught out of position and seems allergic to closing players down properly and just backs off and off until its too late, he is improving I do agree, but at the moment hes got a LONG way to go before getting anywhere near even the standard Beye was when he was here.

The ****fest of him is sickening at times.

Apart from Colo/Jose - our defense is decidedly average - Simpson fits it this mold, however I think he has something over Saylor, he will improve - Saylor will not.

Dont see why he gets so much criticism, Enrique's always backing off players as well and this seems to be the only thing people use against Simpson.

The ****fest of Beye was mostly having a laugh, similar to the Tiote and Enrique banter.

But the Simpson love is just creepy.

I'd rather have Taylor at RB, not because Simpson's particularly bad, just that I think Taylor is a better full-back all-round. At CB, Taylor can look a bit lost sometimes, but when he's out wide I think he's great! He gets up the line better than most full-backs and can defend solidly. Unless Simpson sorts out his backing off and his not forcing wingers outside then Taylor should definitely be playing

If anyone here plays as a full back its always better to be backing off as you are constantly moving, if you just let them run at you stood still then you might as well not be there. However I think he does back off a bit too much for my liking, this will come with a bit of coaching but mainly confidence. I think he is a good crosser of the ball and I think we paid £700k for him which is a steal. He's got a good reading of the game and I wouldn't like him to get forward too much as generally if one full back pushes on (Enrique) then the other drops in, so there is still 3 defenders at the back.

Overall a good player and in my eyes can only get better.

He was atrocious when he was there against Everton though, literally shocking.

Can't remember which game it was (not that long ago...Everton?) but anyways, Taylor played at right back and was the worst player on the pitch by a country mile. I totally disagree with you...then again, I don't, and never have rated Taylor that much.

Did you see Taylor v Everton? He has no positional sense whatsoever and seems to think he is wearing the number 9 shirt a lot of the time, often the furthest man forward when playing at full back.

One game there this season he played badly, but the year we went down he played there a few times and was outstanding.

He is a better right back then central defender as positionally it isn't as crucial, but for me Danny Simpson gets the nod everytime!

It wasnt like an off day or anything though, he genuinely looked like he had no idea what he was doing. He is in the opposition half more than Dani Alves.

Tried to rep you but can't! Totally agree, I wouldn't mind him as back up for both right back and centre back.

Also Smudger, are you going to add yesterdays game to your thingy at the bottom?

Think I might have to, thinking about changing West Ham to 7-1 on aggregate as well.

Everton. I was there, but can't remember much about it. Too much ale beforehand probably. I was just going off the season when we got relegated and he played RB. He got up the wing really well and was solid in defence too

Lets just remember that Joey Barton isnt a right midfielder therefore he finds himself drifting into the centre, and also hes not that fast therefore he cant cover Simpson so I think Simpson is doing brilliantly without much support, everyone makes mistakes but he's improving and he is more of an asset than a liability.

His closing down at times is non existent and he never seems to show a player onto his weaker foot for whatever reason.

He lets way too many balls past him.
