I didn't go to the match, watched it on the ITV digital Sport Channel (remember that?). ITV digital was about to go tits up but they put off pulling the plug to show the match live. Personally, I remember it being a dreadful day and I also remember shouting expletives at the telly because of Worthy's tactic of trying to shut up shop after we'd scored. We were all over 'em 'til we scored, if we had continued to attack I swear to this day we would have won Anyway, that's all in the past now WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE !! On a personal level, my dear Mum God bless her, had lung cancer at that time but had not yet been diagnosed. Incredibly, only four months later she died. After that everything was put into perspective and City losing the play-off final was totally insignificant.
I'm usually super optimistic with football most of the time but I remember even then feeling nervous when he walked up, everyone around us was like what the **** is Sutch doing? You could feel around the whole stadium that that the ball wasn't going to cross the line. It was like watching an elderly relative getting into the boxing ring to fight the Klitschko Brothers. The whole Sutch's penalty incident dragged on it probably only lasted for a minute but seemed more like ten.
Not really Welly, just a suggestion that we are talking pretty fine margins between relative success and abject failure
I take your point Thai, but you're on the right side of that fine margin, a place where, going into the last day of the season, I'm sure QPR and Bolton would love to be!
I am sure you are right, far better going in to the last game wondering if we can finish 11th, 12th, 13th or 14th (at worst)
... and of course, you are right. Another few victories and Europe may have been calling. Maybe another season I hope
I was in Melbourne, Austalia. I had the entire second half, Extra time and penalty Radio Norfolk commentary played to me by Mobile phone. When Iwan scored in extra time I did a lap of honour of our campsite in just my Norwich shirt and pants (was about 3am!!).
