Maybe FOM and the FIA were trying to save themselves from the embarrassment of all the jeering and booing had Hamilton won tomorrow.

i have a suspicion that this penalty could boil down to the fact that it was hamilton in the car

The best thing Hamilton an do is keep his head down and get some solid points.

I think Hamilton should certainly have been penalised, although I do not understand the severity of the penalty, but neither to I think that there is any foul play going on or anything.

You have to think it wouldn't have been the same decision if it were Alonso... That would hurt revenue.

Why? What makes him so much more special than any other driver?

It feels to me like it's giving the spectators what they want in Spain. They may as well have put his head on a spike on the start/finish line.

Just to try and nip this whole "FIA penalising Hamilton to benefit Alonso because the race is in Spain" conspiracy in the bud; if this was true then Hamilton would of got properly punished in the 2010 European GP which he did not which disadvantaged Alonso.

its like being back on the old bbc 606 sgt , when ever hamilton or mclaren fluck up it is everybody"s else"s fault except mclaren or hamilton ,

maybe we should all blame alonso and ferrari for short filling hamiltons car then ?

I wouldn't rule out anything... They went to Bahrain for the green stuff, so why not fuel a hungry audience for cash?

Again... I apologize for my cynicism, but this one stinks. When Hamilton deserves it, I'm the first to hold my hands up... but I just can't fathom this one.

You have a right to be cynical, it's a strange decision, but i can't help but think that McLaren probably exacerbated the situation somewhat, by Whitmarsh going in front of the BBC and basically denying that it was a fuel issue, which is technically lying.

It was the fuel guy's fault, but it's the severity of the penalty that stinks.

I don't blame Alonso for anything. I think he's been a class act this season and so far, is far and away my driver of the season and will only likely get stronger. I have no animosity towards Alonso.

By the time the season ends Mclaren will probably have sacked everyone.

So what you are saying is that the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile made up a reason to give Hamilton a penalty that will give an advantage to Alonso (psst it will also give it to the rest of the multinational grid as well) in order to try and get more money somehow(?) out of a cash-strapped country currently in a massive economic crisis?

    Sneaky.

Sacking doesn't solve anything, they just need to sit down and analyse everything thats going wrong, and learn from their mistakes.
