Me and my mate are looking into going to Australia for a year to work/party. I know there's a few of you lads on here who're overseas. Any tips? Haven't got a clue where to start!

Any help would be appreciated.

No, seriously I would recommend Perth to begin with, I know there are lot of ex-pat's in that area so you should not feel out of place, then get tip's from then on.

What about getting jobs there? I've heard it's really difficult. Don't have a trade yet, but I'm 21 and my mate is 19. My sister said maybe New Zealand is a better option?

DON'T go to Kiwi mate, theres nothing there but sheep, and most of the locals have moved to Brisbane ,
All of the work is in Western Australia, and the workers fly in and out of Perth.
Perth itself is ultra-expensive but the mining companies find it cheaper than the places where the work is, for instance in Karratha, about 1000Km north of Perth the houses are $1500 a week to rent, its crazy but the money is good. The companies fly the workers back to Perth and put them up in hotels ( not all of them obviously, a lot of them live in Perth, and a hell of a lot of them are blown- away Kiwis out to make a fast dollar , it's like the gold rush )
I'd say save a bit of money and go to Perth, stay in the backpackers and go around all of the manning agencies which you can find on the internet, best of luck, go for it, nothing here any more.

A friend of mine was able to get a sponsorship deal (of sort's) through his trade back in the UK with a company
in Perth, his family have been set up there now for 4 year's. He's never looked back. He certainly doesn't miss
the UK.

If I had an option I may have prefered Austrailia or New Zealand over South Africa, not that I dislike the place,
it's perhaps itchy feet time (again) that I'm getting atm.

I'm not sure how the system work's in Austrailia. Here if you set up your own business then you get to stay for
as long as you like and not have to be concerned with 3 month visa's or work permit's.

Opinions are the best part of life. Seriously though Australia & NZ are completely different.
It all comes down to whether you looking for adventure, fast money or a new beginning. The experiences of some when retold to mates when they get home are not always the truth!
The most important No 1 consideration for anyone is, do you have a conviction?
Then you need to work through the list.
PM me anytime & I’ll fill you in with any information or where to find it without bias!

No mate, don't have a conviction. I'm a good lad  Basically, I want to go over there to have the time of my life. Work and get pissed. Just I feel this is the only time I'll get the chance to do it. I'm a support worker for people with learning disabilities over here. Maybe I could get a job for something like that ower there.

I just feel like if I don't do this now, I never will.

Your the right age to get a Visitor/Work Permit (UK Passport?) which will allow you a set period of time. Look it up on http://australia.gov.au/

I'm there often. It's said that the measure of a countries economy is the number of cranes on the skyline. Well, if that’s true then Melbourne is second only to Dubai!

Mate I'm on a workers visa for a year at the minute. Came out in January. If you under the age of 30 you can easily apply for one. It allows you to work for 6 months at one job.

I'm working in a call centre in Brisbane to fund New Zealand for a month, then i'm travelling up to the East Coast from Melbourne to Cairns. I have saved $6000 in 3 months, while also partying.
If you intend to work as well in a city, I would rent an apartment as its cheaper than a hostel.

If you want sun, sea and parties I would do the East Coast. You have Cairns, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. So much to do as well on the East Coast.

When I'm up in Cairns I'm working in a farm because if you do 3 months agriculture work you get a 2nd year Visa.

Overall I would recommend coming out. The life style is better, the pay is better and the partying is awesome!

If you want to ask me anything else just PM me.

Also if your a student go with STA Travels - I paid 800pound for a flight from Newcastle to Cairns via Hong Kong.

To get a visa I would go through a company. Costs you about 250pound but you get the Visa within a week. Whereas if you do it your self could take a couple of months.

I applied this way http://www.visabureau.com/australia/working-holiday-visa.aspx
Its a good site.

You will need to have anout $3500 to come over here - that would only last you about 2-3 months though.

However in Brisbane there are so many temp jobs, and the nightlife is really good.
