Now that we basically have mvila signed what do you guys will be the ramifications on songs position. Imo siggestions of him being a creative midfielder are ridiculous. Whilst he has a creatulive flair he is no where near the level of wilshere or arteta in that position. I feel the only alterntive is to either use him as mvilas deputy or deploy him along side in a 4 2 3 1 formation against the likes of stoke etc. However will he be satisfied with a second fiddle role he certainly deserves better and where does that leave coquelin who imo has greater potential. Important decisions.to make although an interesting dilemma.
Odd dilemma. However you feel about Song, he rarely get's injured. Can M'Vila offer us the same guarantee? Does anyone know his injury record?
Well my opinion is already recorded. Wenger wants to go back to Vieira and Petit/Gilberto in the middle. They play alongside each other.
I think if anything Wenger will keep Song in a simular 'box to box' role to what he currently plays. The big difference will be that we have a holding player to sit in front of the back four.
M'Vila must play in his natural position, just in front of the back four. Song has had to spend too much time in a creative role this year which has left Kos/Verm totally exposed. When people criticise our defence, they don't take into account the lack of work done by the midfield. Ramsey and Rosicky in particular are awful at chasing back and harassing opposition forwards. Song does a lot more but gets caught upfield and the 2 R's just watch him run past them in both directions. I'm absolutely convinced that next year our defence will be transformed due to having a hard working tough DM in front of them.
I agree that Song has been unfairly chastised for being too far forward. He's actually done pretty well in an attacking MF role (14 assists) and he's done his fair share of defensive work. But he is not a DM and hasn't been playing in the DM position, so it's not just up to Song to track back and defend, the whole midfield have been culpable for exposing our back four this season. I think M'Vila will address this problem - although I believe he likes to get forward too. As for Song's future at Arsenal, I hope he stays. I think he's one of our harder working players and is usually pretty effective in games. There are 50+ games in a season, so I think he will get games in the midfield, even with M'Vila in the team.
This. Unless Wenger inexplicably tries to turn mvilla into a box to box player too. If he does this I give up on wenger. If we go into next year (about the 4th year in a row) without a holding player then wenger has to be sacked for sheer incompetence. I dont give a **** about the no trophy thing. You cant win things every year. But to waste the talent we have because wenger plays ******ed tactics is inexcusable.
Song seems to get alot of the blame for Wenger's tactical decisions. In 2009 we played a 4-3-3 with Song in the holding role. It was arguably his BEST season for us. From 2010-12 we have played a 4-2-3-1. In this formation Song has liscence to get forward when Arteta is sitting/and vica versa. Song has'nt just gone kamakaze, he has been TOLD to get forwrad.
Yes and wenger even said as much in a press conference last year. Its wengers fault. But song takes some of the blame imo. I suspect arteta is given identical intructions to song but he is more experienced and so sits more to help the team.
This is true and how I see it, allbeit with a negative slant that I don't share. There is no telling that we would have done better with Song playing a more defensive role. I can't see how people can know about football and thinking that Song is somehow making up his own tactics. We wouldn't win a single game. This guy has played 46 games this season and every game since Christmas. He needs a rest and if he has a bad game or two at this stage, everyone needs to give him a break.
So if you guys play M'Villa and Song in the middle presumably Arteta will be in there too, so it leaves you with places for Walcott and Gervinho with Oxlade-Chamberlain coming in, but then where does that leave Ramsey and Rosicky who has just signed a new contract?
This could be a problem. We've already seen at Arsenal how playing a player out of his natural role can ruin his career (Walcott). I remember when Anderson first went to Man Utd from Porto, he had so much potential but due to him being behind in the pecking order, he has been played out of position in almost every game he has played for Man Utd and has regressed. Thankfully, I think Song will adapt to being a box to box midfielder. Yes, his natural position is a DM but he has moved on from that. I do honestly think he will improve as a creative/box to box midfielder. He won't be the next Pirlo or Xavi but if we sign M'vila, I don't want to lose Song. He has been solid for us despite a poor few games.
There is still the more advanced midfield spot for Rosicky and Ramsey to share. We need at least 2 players for every position, so we even have room for one more DM if we don't reach into our youth ranks.
I actually feel if M'vila comes song will leave the defensive midfield spot will be shared between M'vila and coquelin, who will eventually become box to box midfielder like wilshere once Arteta retires. By that time Jon toral who is playing something of a busquets role for the reserves will alternate with M'vila. Though like ive said before although I do think we will get him I don't think M'vila should have been a priority as song is more than capable of playing a more conservative role but then again I may well be wrong but I'm pretty sure two years from now toral will be playing as an attack minded defensive midfielder...and he will be great at it! Ramsey will come good it will be silly to sell him though he may need a loan spell for now.
