haloms shot is a rocket, billy hughes' skills are silky and our passing isnt bad either

i hadn't seen this i've only been told about the match with city, my granda and dad have told me many times what the crowd was like that night but i think its one of those "you had to be there" moments

I was ther and can back up what your Granda says. A hell of an atmosphere, good game of football which tends to get overshadowed a little bit by the final but the run up doesn't get the credit or should i say exposure that it should. Man City were a top side then as were Leeds and we beat both by playing decent football, not lumping the ball up front or being physical but by beating them at their own game.

Roker Park always had a great atmosphere but when it was packed out like it was that night, well, you just can't replicate that in a modern stadium. Could be me being all nostalgic but that's how i remember it as a wee 13 year old.

Been doing a bit of searching mate and can't find any DVD's other than the Final but there is a good book on the subject if that's any good to you?

just before my time unfortunately, roker park was the loudest ground i've ever heard and i've done some away grounds including wembley 4 times, the west ham promotion game 1980 was absolutely deafening so much so i thought the stadium was going to collapse, i've never experienced anything like it and never will again, sadly

Brought a tear to my eye, I was 17ish and was hoarse for days afterwards.

The noise we generated in those days was phenomenal, those in the know reckoned it was between us and Liverpool for sheer volume.
Personally having witnessed both live, I put us in front of Liverpool.

That's what is missing since leaving terracing behind the feeling of all being one.
Everyone chanted and sang, the odd ones out in those days were the ones not joining in.
Sadly it seems to have gone the opposite way now.

And for the youngsters who never saw Hughes in his pomp, you would love him if he played for us now.
He was one of the most skilful players to grace Roker Park.

Yes those clips of Manchester City, Luton Town, Arsenal brought back many memories. You younger guys may have seen something in these games we don't see now. Corners being fired into the penalty area and our players being on the end of them!!

Welcome Richie. I stood in the Fulwell end, slap bang in the middle but couldn't see **** all so as usual I went to the back and stood on the wooden fence. Magic atmosphere though.

Are we the only team in history to knock out THREE favourites on the way to lifting the FA cup?
Man City were favourites for the cup when we knocked them out. Arsenal were favourites for the cup when we beat them in the semis. Leeds were favourites in the final.....not a lot of people know that :)

That match is still ranked 8th as best games to have been played at Wembley.

WE will have been pretty close together then mate, my favoured position was centre beside the fence so I could hang my smoking hand through the bars. :) Hated losing ***s by having them crushed. :p.
Sometimes used to get away standing up on the fence , mates holding your legs, until Old Bill noticed and came along and knocked your feet away. :)

I used to be anywhere from middle to right hand side, depending on what time we got there, used to hang around with the Redhouse crowd.

We used to stand on the middle back brace on the fence then the twats changed the brace and made it triangular so your feet slipped off, can you remember that? had to go and stand in with the big boys then. My mates brother was a mate of "the Bear" so we were looked after.

Aye I used to drink with the Bear, and a couple of the other warmer skins like Baz and Cad.
I usually try not to mention names as don't like to drop lads in when others put two and two together, if you know what I mean. <ok>
