Every great team has one player that makes the difference. Sometimes its a Defender or Midfield general, other times is a 20+ goal Striker. Last season it was Snodgrass, but next season which one player (who we could realistically get) would you want to see in a Leeds shirt? For me it would be Paul Scharner, the reason is I can imagine him sat in front of the back four controlling the game, whilst scoring headers from set pieces.
Sone Aluko from Rangers, give him a free role on the right or left and let him do his stuff, he would tear the Championship defenders to pieces and score goals for fun. He's free in the summer and looking at his next move. Look at these: in Gaelic
The simple answer is it would still be Snoddy. I agree with Boab on this one, Aluko would be a great replacement for Gradel, would finally be another player to draw attention away from Snoddy. Norris is an average Championship midfielder and would never get into a team seriously pushing for promotion. Actually look at his career so far, what about this suggests he's a top level NPC player? Portsmouth fans don't even rate him as an asset they can sell off.
I'd take Aluko. He looks like he plays a lot like Gradel. Definitely worth going after, but we'd need to keep Snodgrass. One on either wing, it worked so well last season, we would just need a solid defence.
Exactly, the secret to our success last season compared to this was the trio of Gradel, Howson and Snoddy playing behind Becchio. If teams doubled up on Gradel they had Snoddy on the other wing, and if they doubled up on both they had Howson charging through the middle to deal with. We were sorely missing that this season and Aluko would be a great step back towards that.
It never even occurred to me before, but Howson actually has bags of pace. So does Gradel. That's why we've got no pace.
Boab Nunez looked good on YouTube ffs aluko plays in the equivalent of the English league one he's rubbish
This was the same stance that some morons took when we were linked with Jelavic. Look what happened to him. Just because he stands out in a league with poor quality in it doesn't mean he can't be good. You only play what's in front of you. If he wasn't any good in the SPL thn fair enough, but hes actually a very good player. I think we were linked with him last JTW.
But Snoddy didn't make a difference this season or last 4. And since being made captain and given a free role, he has just spent his time moaning and bitching at everything while delivering nowt. Key player in Wilko era was undoubtedly Strachan, but he needed some bloody good players around him. The ones we also remember most were Speed and McAllister and Batty. Bowyer was our key man of the O'Leary era. Again, with some bloody great players alongside. We all talk about Bremner and Giles etc. Most of these players were central midfielders. Great box-to-box stamina, speed, tackling and defensive ability, leadership and offensive skills, scoring and passing prowess. There's your key characteristics - we don't have one of that type of player at the moment. Snodgrass does not deliver on those skills - he is more someone who helps to build a good squad around a key player, much the same as Eddie Gray was. We need to go out and get one, then build up from that
Not in the same bracket. But good team players to be used to build round one great player Losing those players is criminal if you don't replace them
He's not in the same bracket, no, but he's exactly the type of player you described and he has a lot of potential.
