The band with a bit of everything - house, blues, country - Alabama 3. There are way more than three of them and they are from Brixton, or at least met there. Brilliant chaotic live sets, sometimes tour just doIng acoustic versions. Did the theme song to The Sopranos. Dozens of great tunes and the all important attitude. igor, you're not wrong! joy williams is stunning in my book lol their 2 voices combine magically though. I've already booked tickets for their next show in Dublin in october. I must be getting soft in my old age!
I'd better not get involved in this thread considering that I DJ techno!! But for what it's worth 'At Les' by Carl Craig may educate some of you.
I pretty much like everything by Dire Straits and The Who, especially Quadrophenia. Could go on to add Crosby Still Nash and Young. But I am also a big fan of some progressive rock bands, especially Renaissance. And I have commented once or twice about being a chorister -my choir performs (mostly) classical music and there are some pretty good pieces in that genre too - like Handel's Halleujah Chorus and nearly all of Mozart's or Brahm's Requiem. I can barely pick a genre, let alone a band or favourtite song
The scale of my music taste is reaching something like this...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_qvW63z1uzg to something like that..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=4BstyQX-kQQ
Having see SB73 posting of real music with the amazing Alabama 3....who cannot love a band who writes lyrics like Cause I got two heads,Gonna bang my heads together I got one leg, I'm gonna hop to heaven's door I got three eyes,I'm gonna pluck one out for Jesus I know StainsRs does BUT the best band in the whole world bar none (still recording after 25 years). The LEVELLERS Check out new song: And then all of you come with me to Beautiful Days festival in Devon August 17th-20th. The best festival in the UK with The Levellers, Alabama 3, Billy Bragg, Jethro Tull, Ocean Colour Scene Dreadzone
Since the late 60's and 70's when I was a young chap, until this very day my love of music has been quite diverse! in true aquarian stile and as John Miles sang 'Music was my first love and it will be my last' here IMO is my all time top ten singers! 1, Eddie Holman 2, Frank Sinatra 3, Donnie Elbert 4, Robert Plant 5, Levi Stubbs 6, Elvis Costello 7, Dean Martin 8, Tami Lynn 9, Jose Carreras 10, Dennis Edwards I did say Diverse!! your thoughts?
SB- I thought it was only me and Beth who loved the sounds of sweet pretty country acid house music . I first saw the Alabamas at V98, and since then seen them over 20 times. No set has ever been the same and every one is a real show with Bikers, nurses with giant hypodermic stringes, Larry Love and Rev D Wayne coming on in balaclavas with mexican zapatistas and even appearing with one of the great train robbers !!! As you rightly say, sometimes 3 turn up, sometimes 20 so you never quite know what you are gonna get. Fancy a meet up when they play this year ?? Beth- Gutted to say Beautiful Days has already sold out . I couldn't commit so looks like i'm missing out this year. As you know, i totally agree with you about The Levellers. There IS only one way of life.......and thats your own Has anyone mentioned yet Billy Bragg ??. Surely one of the 20th century's best song writers. Great thread by the way, takes my mind off tommorow.
No worries supeerhoopsieeddie. Anybody who drinks sometimes enough could mix those two between each other or could they?. I believe i've been drinkin at least five gallons of wine and beer during this great thred.......
anyone mentioned these lads yet? for me sets the mood for tomorrows game
This has got to be the greatest...: Got any grapes?
I think it is a tough sell on this thread Dave but it wouldn't do if we all liked the same stuff. Some of Carl Craigs music is superb including his Paperclip People stuff. Techno favourites of mine would be B12, John Beltran, Beaumont Hannant, FSOL, Detroit Escalator and Orbital.
Post a link to one of your favorites Dave, I have been pleasantly surprised by a few things on here that I would not have sought out. Plus we need the complete set for the 'Rangers Sounds' compilation. Duck Song, Ivor Biggun and one or two others may have to wait for the Christmas novelty release though.
