Have you not seen the full version of Once Upon A Time In America? Brilliant IMO. Apparently the abridged version is ****e, that's why it's not got a great reputation, but the full 3 and a half hour cut is class <ok>

It's just a bit too slow though at times. A great film but just falls short classic status.

The best gangster films are the ones from the 30's and 40's.

    Anything else is horse excrement.

Fair comment. But I enjoyed it at least as much as I did The Godfather. I quite liked the fact that it wasn't about Italian gangsters for a change, and it was pretty weird to see de Niro as an opium-addict. He liked his rape too if I remember correctly!

I think its Goodfellas by Martin Scorsese, I am also a big fan of gangster films. Here's my list:

    1. The Godfather
    2. The Godfather II
    3. A Bronx Tale
    4. Once Upon A Time In America
    5. Goodfellas
