No you arent the only one. I personally think its the right decision to let him go and get in a new manager. We completely blew our chance of promotion this season under barmby, his constant refusal to change tactics etc when they blatantly werent working were a major factor in this which i think a more experienced manager would hav realised. I know this may be harsh but you cant disagree that our form in the second half of the season was pretty poor. The only problem is the way the allams have handled the whole situation. Im also pretty sure that this third manager that would be extremely popular that they are getting at in the CI article is barmby himself. They go on to say its not a foregone conclusion that he will go, just extremely likely. This leaves the three options as davies, mccarthy and barmby. Billy Davies does have an outstanding record at championship level however i cannot stand the guy and would hate to have him in charge of our club. Barmby i dont think is going to happen leaving mick mccarthy who i personally would gladly take as our manager. He has a very good record at this level and personally quite like him as a manager, wolves certainly had a much better chance of staying up with him in charge than terry connor!
People are criticising NB for not getting us into the play-offs which is a bit unfair when you consider that he took over in mid season, it was his first management position, he had a different football ethos to his predecessor and therefore had to completely change the style of play and depending who you believe couldn't add to the squad. Taking all that into account we still finished a very creditable 8th and most of us felt that a few shrewd buys in the summer could give us a real chance next season. I think we all have a habit of making disappointing news feel better by suggesting it might have been for the best anyway. An example of this is another thread on here where people are saying they wouldn't mind if we sold Koren to Middlesbrough even though he was often our most dangerous player last season. Nick did a good job last season when it could have really gone pear shaped after Pearson's departure and I reckon he would have done even better next if he was given the chance.
Good post, also not bothered about losing Barmby as manager, hated that 1 upfront malarky, boring to watch for most of last season, wouldnt mind either Davies or Mcarthy but suspect itll be neither!
Well done Craig. Don't forget MrPersonality took all the backroom support with him leaving Nick and Adam to build a completely new management team.
This season we achieved what I expected us to achieve, so missing out on the playoffs isn't a relevent factor in who I want as manager next season. We haven't underperformed now or overperformed earlier in the season. We've had a season where the first part the fixtures fell in a way that covered up to a large degree problems in the squad, which allowed expectations to rise. We've then hit the part of the season that was always going to stretch the squad and the results have balanced out. When you look at the mistakes Barmby has made there's nothing unforgiveable in them (except maybe having players telling him they needed subbing and it taking 10 minutes for the subs to start warming up). As a novice manager I'd have been happy giving him this season as a freebie, for him to go away for a few weeks and reflect on things and see the errors he made and come back next year hopefully not making them again, but as there's no guarantees he'd have done that I'd be equally as happy with a decent replacement coming in.
No matter what manager is in place, the players must feel a hint of uncertainty whilst the current owners are in charge,
But someone born in Hull but chose to play in Leeds rather than for us until he was ready to retire, is?
He took something like a 90% pay cut to leave Leeds for us two divisions below. I'd call that being one of our own.
Our manager will be Manuel Jose and our squad will be this: No. Player 1 Egypt GK Sherif Ekramy 4 Egypt DF Sherif Abdel-Fadil 5 Egypt DF Ahmad El-Sayed 6 Egypt DF Wael Gomaa (Vice-captain) 7 Egypt MF Shehab El-Din Ahmed 8 Egypt FW Mohamed Barakat 9 Egypt FW Emad Moteab 10 Egypt MF Moataz Eno 11 Egypt MF Walid Soliman 12 Egypt DF Ahmad Shedid Qinawi 13 Egypt GK Ahmed Adel Abd El-Moneam 14 Egypt MF Hossam Ghaly (Captain) 15 Egypt FW Mohamed Nagy "Geddo" 17 Egypt MF Sayed Moawad No. Player 18 Egypt FW Al-Sayed Hamdy 19 Egypt FW Abdallah Said 20 Egypt MF Mohamed Shawky 21 Brazil FW Fábio Junior 22 Egypt MF Mohamed Aboutrika 23 Egypt DF Mohamed Nagieb 24 Egypt MF Ahmed Fathy 25 Egypt MF Hossam Ashour 26 Mauritania FW Dominique Da Silva 28 Egypt DF Mohamed Abdel Fattah 34 Egypt DF Ahmed Nabil "Manga" 35 Egypt MF Ramy Rabia 38 Egypt MF Amr Warda 39 Egypt DF Ayman Ashraf
Don't know if anyones said it, but I reckon the three are Davies, McCarthy and Phil Brown being the popular one. If it isnt Brownie, then Warren Joyce would be the popular one.
He came to us eight years ago, he was nowhere near retirement age and could easily have continued to play in the Premier League.
