This is usually a bad sign though, the club aren't flat out denying it. Maybe your board are overly worried about the FFA rule? Good for Barmby though for standing up for the club. Billy Davies will do them well if this is true, i doubt they will sink, look at the **** that Forest are in now hes gone If you do get Billy Davies, i applaud your Hull board, cause i would have had him here after Sven left
Not really the point though, I was responding to the bit suggesting my comments were in some way influenced by the fact Barmby looks to be on his way out. I've only ever said Barmby's tactics are more attacking than NP's, and the amount of chances we've missed since he left confirm it. Beyond that I've always been one of the ones that said NP did a good job of building a team here (not a squad, there's no depth as I pointed out in August), and I've never given any value to Barmby being "one of our own". He's made a lot of poor mistakes, which given I said preseason I didn't expect us to make the playoffs unless we got really lucky I was prepared to overlook and judge him on next season. I wouldn't sack him, but if he goes I don't see it as though we're losing the next Mourinho the way you'd think we were from some people's reactions.
Davies was sick of broken promises about money at Forest and these same promises were broken that led to Nick standing up to the Allams so although he is a good manager, I can't see it happening.
Yeah, I just pop over every now and then. Outside of transfer windows and when we're playing each other there's not much of interest. I'd probably have posted more if either of us had been in the promotion/relegation push.
It definitely means it's confirmed, but the stated aim for the club all along was to be self sufficient from next season so the FFP rules are irrelevent as we were already going to meet them when any discussions between Barmby and the board happened so any money he was promised should have been included. I think it's more to do with not being able to turn the stadium revenue into club revenue (as the Council won't sell), and them realising we can't progress the club as funding expansions will be a problem in terms of the accounts. I'm mixed on him, I think he's a whinging twat and I remember at Derby he spent his summer transfer budget in January when they were virtually promoted anyway, and then complained that he didn't have any money to spend in the summer when the squad was nowhere near ready for the PL. If he'd not spent millions in January he'd have been able to sign players better than Craig ***an for £1M. He seems like one of those managers that spends a fortune every year without accomplishing anything like what he should. A bit like a poor man's Harry Redknapp, when you look what he spent at Pompey to only get one FA Cup, and the amount he's spent at Tottenham to get them 4th place once and then struggling this season to beat Newcastle to it when they've spent far less.
Dave Jones and Billy Davies took/have taken so long to get new jobs, i was stunned, both did well with very little budget, both have proved that they can compete in the championship and can get a not very expensive team into the playoffs, 2 seasons in a row. I would have taken either of them here tbh before the Pearson stuff started.
As stated - Davies demands money, and demands players coming in. If this was a problem for Barmby - it will be a non starter for Davies - unless his 6 months on jsa is finally up
In his first full season he got us Promoted in Lg1, then 2nd season he got us into the playoffs and missed out on penalties (thanks to a Frenchman). This season he inherited Svens team. Give him a full pre-season and season and he will shine through again!
We always knew our owner was a bit bonkers, but I think there's a chance that he's now becoming clinically insane. He's sacked two good people for no good reason and it seems they are entertaining offers for players, presumably because Nick's replacement wants to bring in his own. By their own admission, they know nothing about football and they seem to be doing their level best to prove it at every opportunity.
Am I the guy with the capitalised name? Please say it's me. Please, please , please say it's me. Infamy at last, it's all I ever craved.
Wizard With you on this - I didn't want Sven sacked it was far too soon - and my preference was for Billy Davies once the deed had been done - BD kept Forest consistently contending with very limited funds and, what's more they played some good football. So if Hull do get Billy I would expect them to be up there again once he has got things settled down. Proud mentions that NP is proven as a 'good manager' on his post on this thread but for me he still has quite a bit to prove (although I am 100% behind him now that he is in post). To date NP has got us up from L1 and into the play-offs but 2 managers since then (lambert with Norwich and adkins with Southampton) have come up from L1 and with that promotion momentum pushed straight through to the Prem - which sort of put what NP has 'achieved' into perspective. I'm optimistic about us for next season but what I need to see from Np is a plan B that works when his plan A obviously isn't - up until now I haven't seen that game changing tactial nouse that MON definitely had.
You think they'll still play hard-ball should we come in with bids? I've noticed rumours of bids for Stewart, Chester and Koren in the last couple of days.
We were up against Newcastle and West Brom who walked away with the league and our then top scorer broke his jaw in January. Could you imagine Norwich or Southampton doing what they did without Holt or Lambert? Not comparing Fryatt to them, but if he stayed fit he would have got 20 goals.
I'm just amazed he's not still harbouring some hope of reaching this season's playoffs. (as in 2011/12 season)
