This thread (http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/141545-Rivalries) got me thinking, who are our rivals? Traditionally it has been Cov and Forest but are they still - has never really been any banter between us on these boards and elsewhere, is it because we/they don't care any more? Most of our 'banter' over the past season have been with Hull, Leeds and the occasional Bristol fan - is that because of individuals or because they've become our new rivals? What do you think?
Theres a difference between Club rivalry and Forum rivalry. Club is usually based on distance and the goal of becoming "better than that club down the road". Forum is based on how many fans there are with quite extreme opinions that usually verge towards "our clubs the best and yours isn't", the internet is like putting 2 sets of die hard fans in a locked room and trying to get them to compromise over anything to do with their clubs, which won't happen. Can you imagine putting 1 Leicester and 1 Leeds fan in a room and trying to get them to agree who was best out of Kasper and Lonergan, they would probably starve to death before coming to a decision they both agreed on. I voted Forest and Cov, as they are our main rivals, no-one outside this forum would consider Hull/Leeds a rival club.
Club rivalry will always be the M69 derby. Closely followed by Florist. No one else is even considered!
I´m glad someone has put a poll up on this topic as I was wondering what everyones thoughts would be. Sheep mine, I hate them more then Trees.
No brainer for someone from Barwell. will they still be rivals when they drop to the conference though ?
Yes to me it's Coventry as we seemed to have adopted each other anyway. Forest and Derby may scoff at us because of their special A52 link (he says in a sarcastic manner) but as Leicester is the biggest and oldest city in the region and therefore the most senior we don't care about them anyway. If only the tigers were a proper footy team (Leicester Tigers Hull fans) then we could lay in to them and their Saab driving fans
We are definitely not rivals with Hull and Leeds! Leeds have a problem with us because we acted like a bigger club than them last season regarding spending. My only problem with Leeds is that, like Forest, their fans have the arrogance of big club supporters, but their last successes we're many, many years ago. Hardly warrants their superiority complex does it? As for Hull, it started off as a bit of friendly banter because they had a lot of our rejects, but obviously, nicking their manager didn't help. I have no problem with the club whatsoever, but some of their fans have proven to be really dicks over the last year (and some are very likable too I should add), so the only reason I would want to see Hull fail was because of them. A bit like Plymouth fans in 2007 and Blackpool fans in 2010. It'll all fizzle out. As I've written before about rivalries, only Forest and Derby for me. Never met a Cov fan.
**** were they annoying mother *******. Leeeeeds are scum, Hull are some times good banter... OLM you tosser lol
I havent got any problem with Hull. I actually wanted them to do well under Nigel. Most of the stuff between the boards is friendly banter
Traditionally its not cov,we have only play a handful of games against them.unlike forest and derby whom we have played over a hundred times each over the years, cov are and always will be 3/4 division (now 1/2 divisions ) team
Think the poll shows that cos Leicestershire touches so many other counties, that we view our rivals dependant on which part of our county we live in - or indeed follow our forefathers in the rivalry. Personally have no affiliation to any other team other than LCFC, so see any other team in the same league as us as rivals, but having lived in cov for half of my life, its a stand out no brainer for me. Interestingly, have seen their main rivals move from Wolves to Villa and more recent years ourselves. As foxcityfc states, a lot depends on who you actually play against. The chavs will remain main rivals for me for a couple of years at least, but the way Barwell are going at the moment (promotion, then promotion then consolidation) it could indeed be my own village in years to come.
Wow, you have a long memory! Won't next season be the first time they have been in the third tier in around 50 years? They have been in our league a lot over the last 16 years...
The vote for Leeds only has two votes, I was surprised to see anyone other than Forest, Peterborough, Derby and Coventry. As the other guy pointed out though forum banter and club rivalry are different. Hull, Leicester, Leeds, Southampton and Cardiff seem to be the only forums on here (in the Championship) with any real activity.
Only ever came on here to wind up the plonker AKCJ.No rivalry at all with Leicester.Although at times its been fun.
