    Good post.

Incidentally what is our forward line now? Rooneys banned and /Bent is injured. Who else is there?

Capello would probably have trusted Welbeck to lead the line, but now that he's gone Crouch may just get another chance.

On paper Capello and Eriksson's managerial record was good and look how that turned out for England. If we're going for an Englishman then Hodgson or Redknapp would be the best choice. Big name managers have failed with us so I wouldn't write Hodgson off yet. Not saying we'll win the euros or anything, but he deserves as much of a chance as his big name predecessors.

When it comes to the England job, Brown is the new Clough. That much is for sure.

I thought Sven was pretty good as England manager...

Though I still think it should definitely be an Englishman.

good on paper and stats etc. but the football was dire in general bar the 5-1 in Munich.

Most England bosses in the last 30-odd years have had good and bad moments and their records are generally fairly similar. The only two who had truly catastrophic spells in charge were Taylor and McClaren.

I thought Sven's record was good but Vassell, think he was a bit deluded with that one! Probably too weak with the players and from memory was not very good at changing things when needed. The 5-1 was great just a shame that we got smashed 4-1 at the Euros, (Capello of course) hope the next manager makes us tight v Germany or Spain

Clearly he is - the only person with "baggage" that the stuffed shirts have ever appointed was Venables - then they got rid as soon as they could despite our good showing in Euro 96.

There is no comparison between Cloughie and Redknapp, Cloughie actually won trophies, if anything Redknapp has the best team he has ever managed at Spurs and has underachieved with them for the last two seasons.

a bit unfair really , i think Spurs finishing 5th would be about right and i think 4th (still on the cards) is more than he could have hoped for at the start of the season

The more I think about this, if I was Woy and they offered me the job I'd reject it.

He literally doesnt stand a chance this summer due to the overwhelming support the tabs have for Harry The Bung. He'll have 6 weeks with the team when other managers have had years yet because the media is so pro Redknapp this wont be taken into account and the inevitable failure will see him lampooned. If Harry had taken the job, when we fail there would be a collective shrug of the shoulders and statements such as "well, what was he expected to do in that time?".

Woy is on to a good thing at WBA, he's got them performing brilliantly and they've a real chance of 'doing a Stoke' and becoming a settled top flight team rather than the proverbial yo-yo club. I'd stick it out for sure.

the only thing that would motivate me to manage England would be the money ... Ive not that much interest in our national team , its hype and the analysation by the press

I think to main football writers of all the national press should manage the team as a committee, after all they will slaughter who ever gets the job, so they must know better.
Maybe the FA where worried about giving Harry the job as the press wanted him to have it, the last time they let the press pick the manager, we got Keegan. Tactical disaster.

The problem with England is the blind faith we put into thinking we can actually win stuff. The talent at our disposal is always weak in one area or another, we dont have any 'un-playable players' - everyone can be nulified with a bit of brains or angered into being booked/miss games. I remember thinking we could win the world cup with Danny Mills at right back...needs a jolt from start to finish at every level. I'm not sure we'd stand much chance against Spain or Germany, the Holland game exposed how clueless we could be at times.

If that was true it'd be a perfectly good point but look at Lampard, how old is he now about 32-32ish? Yet he still gets about the pitch better than anyone else. Everyone has this problem with England's older players but if it isn't hindering them in any way as it obviously isn't with Lampard then why is it a problem?

After the last WC everyone said we needed to follow Germany's example of having a really young team, now that we have a lot of young players in the team that isn't good enough either because they need to be between 23 and 29? Personally I don't give a **** how old as long as they're good enough.

I like our best players yes. Nothing to do with the age I just don't buy the media bollocks that players become **** as soon as they say so. I completely agree about Wilshere because he's an awesome talent, but Lampard has had a fantastic season too, yet just because he's over 30 everyone's writing him off.

Agree with most of that but I'm not sure Redknapp would have got off without a bashing in the papers either. He's popular now but a few days before the first game they'd all run a big bung story or something and tell us all how awful he is.

So who has a stronger team in depth than us? It's easy to find average players in a team you know well but who will play for Germany, Holland and Spain this summer? I'd be very surprised if anyone on here has even heard of the 23 any of those teams take to the Euros. They will all have some unproven players or ones with little or no reputation. Every team will have a couple of stars and the rest won't be as good. Obviously Spain in particular have more world-class stars than us and the other decent teams but Germany who everyone will be ****ing over don't have a squad like them, they'll Ozil who is comparable to our Rooney and the rest of the team are good but not any better than we've got in the likes of Hart, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Parker, etc.
