Who is the better dual purpose horse- Yes Overturn is the classier horse but the statistics say Unaccompanied is the better horse.

    Overturn

    Runs 1st 2nd 3rd
    Lifetime (Flat) 16 4 2 1 25.0%
    Lifetime (Jump) 19 7 5 3 36.84%

    Unaccompanied

    Lifetime (Flat) 6 3 1 0 50.0%
    Lifetime (Jump) 7 4 1 0 57.14%

I know I would rather have in my stable (Overturn) but it is intresting to see the stats!

What a lovely choice to have to make Wooley.

I would have Unaccompanied any day of the week..listed flat winner and dual GI hurdle winner (think!).

    Plus huge shed potential.

Unaccompanied is much younger of course - Overturn is already 8 whilst the mare is only 5. I think I'd rather have unaccompanied, I think Overturn may have peaked but the mare has a good few years ahead of her

Yes she has age on her side- but will she ever come as close as overturn this year to winning a champion hurdle (some say it was a weak renewal) but he still beat the Fly and Binocular and he has won the chester cup, the Galway Hurdle and the northumberland- he has won all over

Compared to Accompanied majority of her wins have come in Ireland, all to my knowledge ( iam probably wrong) but what has she won and what will she winn that compares to Overturns record

Overturn is the slightly better horse at the moment, but I'd say Unaccompanied is a better 5 year old than Overturn was at that age, so I'd side with the classy mare, as Id say she will have achieved more than Overturn once both have finished racing:biggrin:

Overturn is a handicapper on the flat (admittedly a very good one), Unaccompanied has won at listed class. She's also won 2 Grade 1s over hurdles and finished a close 2nd to Zarkandar in the Triumph. Overturn has only 1 Grade 1 to his name and, to be honest, I'd be very surprised if he wins another. I can imagine we might see Unaccompanied at Royal Ascot for the Gold Cup this year

Overturn came second in the Champion Hurdle. Some would say that's the be all and end all of NH racing. She'd have to win the Champion to better him then surely. At least over hurdles that is. Will she win the Champion Hurdle? Not bloody likely.

I also would counter any grade ones matter arguments by stating that China Rock and Lucky William won grade ones this week. Just saying.

No brainer for me assuming I was acquiring them now. A very well bred mare with a good race record v a gelding, with not many years left.

If we were saying which one would we have rather had from (say) a foal, I'm not so sure.

I would rather of had overturn for sure. His form over hurdles is superior.

So what is the question? Is it:
    (a) if being offered one or the other now which one would we choose, or
    (b) which one would we have preferred to be associated with throughout their racing career

I have answered (a) as for me that was easier than (b).

    No comparison, yet.

Overturn rated 106 on the flat and 164 over hurdles. Unaccompanied rated 98 and 155.

Overturn won £667,649, Unaccompanied won £175,964.

Unnacompanied is 5 compared to Overturn's 8 so she has age on her side.

The only way you could possibly prefer (IMO) Unaccompanied is because she's a mare and as a result has (considerable) breeding value. I don't think she's any match for Overturn for the title of best dual purpose horse though. She might be in a few years but not yet.

I had looked at the prize winnings. If I was offered both, together with their winnings, then I would take Overturn (bird in hand worth 2 in a bush). But in terms of future profitability I would take the mare because (a) she is younger with more racing fun to be had (hopefully) and (b) she must be worth something as a broodmare. The only way I could choose Overturn, as at now, would be if I spent some time with them both and decided I would prefer Overturn as a future pet.

The answer to this question is Overturn.

However, like you Ron, if I could have either Overturn or Unaccompanied tomorrow I would have the mare. The main reason being that I could breed a load of nice ones from her.

I have made no secret of my love affair with Unaccompanied so for me the answer is easy.

I also feel that if her connections had been a bit more adventurous she could have given Quevga a test :))

If they hadn't run her in that fecking bog in January she might well have given Rock On Ruby a test <ok> (just ask Grizzly <run>)
