You don't need to go to the China. The number of times I have ended up chatting to a Chinese student on a train in the UK is amazing!
Very! You have to be wary of those that think all foreigners are rich and think you are a ticket to their finding wealth. The majority are very keen to practice their English and nothing more than that. I met my girlfriend here over two years ago and feel I am very lucky to have someone as good as her. Still trying to convince people how good Saints are as the only overseas football on TV here is mostly Italian and German. Live games most weekends. The locals only know of a few teams and Manu shirts are regularly seen here although most of the wearers know nothing of the team, it is a fashion item. Champions League gets shown live and people will watch midweek at 2.45am. Better supported I think than the Chinese Super League (super, it is not). Looking forward to Saints being shown live on TV here sometime in the not too distant future.
Just signed up for fear of not being able to access the sight as a guest tomorrow. Will be watching from home here in Mexico City. COYR
I will be watching at home in North Wales after my planned trip to Southampton this weekend fell through! My heart will be in SMS though. Isn't it great reading this post and hearing of the places that have Saints fans living there.
Most of the Chinese I meet are fairly wealthy (or they would not be studying/working here), so I have not experienced that issue - they just seem to be pleased with a bit of interest and attention especially if you know a little Mandarin. Are you out there teaching English, I know a few people who have done that? As for Chinese football, it always seems to be in scandal, yet it still amazes me that they cannot amass a decent international team considering their population. Here is hoping for a great result .
Will be live streaming it tonight! Got a dozen mates coming round who are being converted into saints supporters rather than just glory hunters! Just Been and picked up a 55 inch TV to give it the best effect. Can't wait. COYS
Yea I am teaching English out here, not for much longer coming back to study Business and Chinese, in Glasgow - bit random I know, but yes Chinese girls are great. Maybe I will have a 'hopefully' celebratory picture for you guys later"
Not too many wealthy Chinese in this area, it is a fairly poor mainly farming community with some small (by Chinese standards) towns. The majority of locals here are happy to see me and are curious to know why I am here. The level of English is mostly low although one or two do speak English really well. I am here teaching English, the best job I have had. Most classes it does not feel like work and in my free time I get to travel. I am on the first day of a six day break so tomorrow morning (Sunday) I am off to the nearest big city and then hope to visit the worlds largest Buddha carved in stone at a place called Leshan. Chinese football is not good, watched Anelka sulk his way round the pitch last weekend on TV, switched off after 60 minutes it was awful. The major sports here are basketball (yes there are some tall Chinese), and table tennis. they like to watch football but not too many play the game it would seem. Plenty of foreign players over here but most of them are players unheard of outside their own country or those after one final contract. The game here is not financially sound as most games are in stadiums of 30 to 40 thousand capacity or bigger yet less than 10,000 at the majority of games, and players are being paid silly money by mega rich owners. I am literally watching the clock tick down to kick off this evening and may try to watch a game of not so super league to pass the time leading up to the big one. hoping the stream works better than last week as it froze and wouldn't work after ten minutes against m'boro (maybe that was a blessing).
I had the same problem with the stream v Middlesbrough. No such problem for us in the UK today though fortunately. I am just hoping the game lives up to it's billing!
I'm another one out here in China, in the beautiful city of Qingdao. I'll be watching the game tonight with some of my Saints-converted ex-pat chums; a Kenyan, a Kiwi, a Yankee, and a Canadian. PS - I'm new to 'not606', so hello everyone!!!!!!!!
Morning Blacko, Welcome to the board. Can't sleep, must be something happening today! I hope we all have a great day.
Ta Fran, yeah feels like Christmas, only better. I'm supposed to be writing a dissertation on something or other, but can't really concentrate. Anyway, studying is for girls, it's all about man-love today!!!!!!
Watching from Auckland NZ, 11.30pm KO here, very nice compared the the usual 2am ones! Going to be watching a live stream plugged into the tv my mates place (West Ham fan ) COYR Absolutely buzzing waiting for this one!!
Afternoon Blacky, Thats at least three of us here in China. I am a little way south west of you in Sichuan, about three hours south of Chengdu in a very rural small town.
Hey NZ saints, I'm on holiday and at Milford Sound on South Island. We have a very dodgy Internet signal here but what stream will you be using. Might try and give it a go. So silly to be in this most beautiful place and have your heart and mind at SMS. Tried to switch off but failed miserably.
Hi everyone, long time lurker here. I'm in Brisbane too (Stegie, did you forget to vote today?), but used to live near the Dell when I was at University. In January, I got to the Blackpool match with my daughter, and was stood right behind Bart when he managed to squeeze the ball through the hole in his shirt. Does anyone know of any streams out here? Just signed up to say, Come on ye Saints!
