As we know Chelsea have earned a spot in the Champions League final with either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich at the Allianz arena. The situation is, if Chelsea win the final it means Newcastle need 3rd place to qualify for the Chmpions League.

The surface seems a tad underwhelming but if you think about it, Tottenham who are under a lot of pressure and have a spiritually crippled but talented team will be under yet even more pressure and already look like crumbling and this would most probably put more weight on there plight to overtake us.

Newcastle on the other hand are under no pressure having already secured an amazing feat in guaranteeing us Europa League competition and are actually enjoying playing their football.

My point being is this evening has a stronger impact on Spurs than it does Newcastle. If Chelsea fall short against one of these giants they will face in the final then we can sneak into 4th and possibly even 3rd if Arsenal hit a couple of roadblocks, the pendulum is still swinging our way lads. :)

I agree it has a stronger impact on Spurs (and possibly Arsenal) than it does Newcastle, as they will have expected CL football and maybe even rely on it.

But I'm not sure it's a blessing in disguise. To be this close and possibly miss out on CL would be sooooooo frustrating.

That said, I had absolutely no thoughts of Europa League at the start of the season, let alone possible CL. It's unbelieveable.

We still have a long way to go to ensure CL football even IF Chelsea lose the final. But the fact we have already secured top 6 and a guaranteed european slot is totally amazing.

It's the ideal situation if they end up losing in the final, better than if they'd got knocked out now. Hopefully they'll still have one eye on the FA Cup and the CL and be less willing to put in the 50/50s against us as a result.

Quite simply, Chelsea will not beat Bayern at the Allianz, they're awesome this season.

Everyone said Chelsea would never beat Barcelona, but we did.
To be fair, if a team can beat Barcelona over two legs, they can beat any team in the world on the day.
But I agree Bayern have an awesome team.

Chelsea have too many players missing from the final, they just won't win that game by counter attack, teams will ensure they are covered.

Madrid can go to plan D if needs be, Barca don't have a plan B which was their problem. Chelsea did really well and deserved it. I seriously doubt their players would have been that tired, they parked the bus and just stood up to them, not allowing Barca any room.

As for us, it's great to be discussing it but I think 5th for us. Chelsea 6th, although if Chelsea get 4th and win the CL and FA Cup, wow. Can't see it but it's possible. We're playing them at the right time IMO.

I dont see why bayern is so hyped up, their defence is shaky, granted their midfield and strike force is strong and they could be playing at home, but I think it will be Real Madrid in the final. They just need to score on goal at home and keep a clean sheet sand Mourinho is the best manager in the world. Between Real and Chelsea...could be anyone's to win on the day. I've always said Chelsea had some big players that perform on the day. Cashley, Cech, Lamps, Drogs they're world class when their heart is in it. Ivanovic and Ramires in particular will be big misses though, not so much Terry. I guess Essien will come in for Ramires and Kalou for Meireles. The big ?factor is David Luiz though, Cahill is fine but Luiz in such a big match? I don't like.

Drogba was huge against Barca, but Chelsea are missing players who are the heart and soul of the team, so I don't see them winning it at all

The missing Chelsea players will make it very difficult but playing against Barca with ten men in need of a goal is even more difficult but they did it, Chelsea won't be favorites and it will be a great task but I wouldn't count them out.

    First let's beat Wigan.

Once we've won all our fixtures, we can start worrying about what other teams do.

Chelsea beat Barca because they actually wanted it, and Barca looked like they didnt care. Full credit to Chelsea, beating Barcelona was a brilliant accomplishment, but when they come up against Real/Bayern who actually want to win the CL, with their centre backs missing, i dont see Chelsea winning.

Must admit like Hoddle I'm starting to think their name is on it. We've seen it in cups before. They have big obstacles to overcome with suspensions and class opposition. My head tells me Real, then Bayern, then Chelsea. i.e. i think either will beat Chelsea. You just can't help wonder after getting through Barca.

If you can stop Messi you can stop Robben or even Ronaldo.

The difference with the final is, in the Semi, they had the advantage almost the whole game. As soon as Barca got a goal back they had to attack and they looked vulnerable, and Barca scored a second. I honestly think they'd have gone to score 4 or 5 if Ramires hadn't scored when he did, giving Chelsea the advantage back and allowing them to put all 10 men behind the ball. In the Final with no away goals, they're going to have to attack from the start and go at the game, which I think will leave them exposed and beatable.

Agree. Another difference with the final is that Bayern are at home.
