I have watched the transformation of the team from Steve Bruce to MON and I look at it from the point of view of watching a mediocre team change to a team which has grit, determination and desire. Which leads to the statement that it's not what you have it's what you do with it. Saying that I see lots of posting from the community of who he is going to bring in from the sublime to the ridiculous. After seeing the change in the current team the players he is going to bring in will be just the ordinary sloggers that he can convert to high flyers. (looking from MONs past transfer dealings) It wouldn't surprise me if he brings in the likes of a Daryle Murphy and converts him into a mean fighting goal machine.........oh well I can live in hopes. It's been a wild ride from the turn of the year and whatever MON has in mind for us as supports is fine with me......roll on the new season!!!!
I really don't think ES would authorise another summer of big spending. I reckon MON will stay mostly British when searching, but talent will certainly be eyed abroad. MON loves a signing where fans say 'what the ****' only for them to do well. You're in a sticky patch at the moment which is good for MON, he gets to see the downside before the summer rather than being led to believe he had a perfect team which would ultimately fall next year.
ellis is no mug and he said he wants to be a regular top ten team pushing for top 6, prity sure he knows to do this he will have to stick his hand in his pocket.
this is your first year in the top ten it's hardly consistently finishing in the top ten is it? and wasnt cisse 10 million??
Well its hardly our first year in top ten is it? But you prove the point - a team that was only promoted 2 seasons ago has gatecrashed the top 6 without spending crazy money. Yes Cisse was 10m and by far our most expensive signing but thats hardly top dollar these days. Plus he is now a very sellable asset if need be, his value must have doubled. I dont think it will be as easy for us in the summer though, other clubs will have caught on to what we are up to. Hopefully their scouts wont be as good as ours although I can see the likes of Liverpool just scouting our scouts and trying to gazump us on signings.
well yes it is in the last few year! my point is you do need to spend a few quid to finish in the top 10/6 consistently. the fact you have had a great season doesn't now make you a top 6 team does it?? im not saying were gona be spending 50-60 million but if mon wants a decent player i cant see ES saying no
Bruce spent less than he made in selling players so it's all relative badger - everyone thinks we spent silly money for the sake of it but we actually ran a transfer profit in Bruce's time. If O'Neill can sell as many players as Bruce did then I think he'll have as much to spend - and I think that's the key - sell players and bring in new ones
I agree with Smithy! I think MON will be given a modest budget but if he goes to ES and pleads his case on a player who he thinks will substantially improve us, i think ES will give him the funds. ES has quietly sat back and learnt about the game, so i think the days of paying stupid wages for the likes of Chimbonda are well gone.
Everton consistently finish top 10 with almost no budget. I think O'Neill's first task will be to bring your wage bill down, which means bringing in younger players and shipping out some old has-beens. Bruce dropped a clanger by not getting Gibson from United when he had the chance, Everton have seen the best of him for a lot of this season and he'll be there for years to come if Phil Neville is anything to go by. O'Neill is obviously a better manager than Bruce so you'd trust him to get these type of decisions right.
Biggest problem we are left with from Kean is wages, get rid of some of those Kean signed or renegotiate their contracts and we'll have money to spare
I think we will have to offload a few players before we spend to balance the books...Short is first and foremost a business man who will not permit the club to spend money that it doesn't have..
yes they do but have a cracking spine of very good players and a very good youth system. were not a million miles away from them but we will need to spend a few quid before were at the stage were we only need one maybe two players a season to push on.
Yeah, they do have a great spine of players, and a good youth system but so do you. You have a decent defence, I believe the 2nd lowest conceded in the league at home after City. We have Rio, Evans, Smalling, Jones, Evra, Raphael who have conceded more than you lot this season at home. That's good enough in my book. Your midfield is well balanced, pace, brute, youth, experience. You have promising strikers, maybe not Chun Li but apart from Ji Sung Park who has actually made waves from that part of the world in this league? (Ryo Myachi watch this space). If you could get Lukaku on loan next season, you'd be well equipped to have a good go at top 7. It's really all you're missing, although I'd look for a direct replacement for Cattermole, his leadership skills as a role model to the youngsters at your club is pathetic, the likes of Colback and McClean are supposed to respect this guy as their leader but he really is just a liability. I'd expect a summer of tinkering, not an overhaul, but that depends if the tramps keep their hands off your top youngsters or come back with a part ex for that flop Henderson.
yeah but there back up players are much better then ours! and we have one creative player in the whole squad (sessegnon) we do have a decent squad but mon will have to get rid of a few and get some more quality in who can complimet sess, we wont be spending 50-60 million but we need to spend a bit and i dont think it will be a problem for ES.
So does that mean if Man City finish top they cant call themselves champions cos they havent done it regularly for a while? top six finish means top six club - for now at least. Help yourself to a clutching straw.
