Another 'rumour' going around is that Jackson Martinez is close to signing for Liverpool for $9 million.

I was wondering if anyone had seen him play or offer their thoughts on this.

From what I have heard, he is similar to Danny Wellbeck in that he's quick, good movement etc.

I think he is in the Colombian national team setup as if he is not, there could be work permit problems.

The 'reliable' Wikipedia states that he has played 10 times for Colombia.

Not sure how many games he has to play in order to avoid the work permit issues.

Barely even heard of him to be honest! Same with Hernandez and then he took the league by storm ( last year). I know the next generation of Mexican players are going to be legit, same with colombia but I have never heard of Martinez. I hope he can add something a bit different, some pace, ability to beat a player, put a ball in or link up well.

25 though, not exactly a hot "prospect" surely he would have been signed/recognised by now if he were any good..?

Great article - just finished reading it!

This is definately the type of striker we should be looking at. I know a lot of people are after a poacher type but I feel that a striker should have more to his game then just being in the right place at the right time (which is just as important!).

From the piece, we can gather that he definately has the physical attributes to succeed - pace and power, with the former being something we desperately lack up front. But he seems to have the technical attributes as well, however we will see how well he can cope with a faster and a more difficult league.

Not convinced about this deal, in other words Im not convinced it happening

Journo Jen Chang has just commented on twitter, and hes right

    1. Players making big move don't talk about it for months beforehand in media. Generally indicates player/agent trying to drive interest
    2. Would be unusual for any club to put a 3M down payment (acc. to Mexico media) on a player while looking for a new director of football
    3. With only 10 caps for Colombia since '09 - unless he has European ancestry, Martinez might have problems getting a UK work permit

Never really heard of him until a couple of monts ago, hes 25, and he plays in the Mexican league so I couldnt be arsed if we sign him or not.

In other transfer news we had a 17 year old Finnish lad on trial in March called Joel Pohjanpalo he scored a perfect hatrick in under 3 mins in his first senoir start in the Finnish league, he will be signing for us in the summer according to a lot of journalists and he is defo one for the future.

Love the sig Drogs, do you care if you are the pride of England? I doubt it. Most want to see you fail, for me I'd be quite happy to see it hurt certain fans of teams above ye in the league:) <ok>

I said on the manc board(will dig it out if ye and bayern are in the final) that this year for chelsea reminds me a lot of 2005 before the comeback against napoli.. another reminder and that it was ripe for chelsea to win it this year against all the odds, I also said no spanish teams in the final, lets see..
