If they don't cancel the marathon/GNR, the least they could do is to either lower the fences or have less runners.

It opens up a huge debate but the most obvious is as has already been stated, firstly there is volition for humans taking part in an event like the London marathon, secondly many of the people whose views i have read are not opposed to Horse Racing but simply the National, the thinking is that perhaps we have made the challenge too great and tipped the balance resulting in a spectacle that we enjoy but at an unnecassary equine cost. This is my view, no banning but a redajustment of the challenge we ask the horse to face on that day.

The placing another living thing in a hierachy to which we can then decide to dominate opens a different and interesting debate. The question is if we can dominate another's destiny should we? The general consensus seems to be situated at present that if it looks as we do and can communicate as we do we consider as our selves, if however it is seen to exist yet unable to communicate as we do or look as we do then it is ok to dominate it and use it for our ends. I like the quote from Gandhi that you can tell how civalised a society is by how it treats it's animals. What i think he was getting at is that some of us can only see some things objective appearance whilst some can see it's subjective esscence or being-ness and to nurture and respect that and forgo power to dominate just because we can demonstrates a civilised society. I write this simply as an aside.

Couldn't give two ****s about the Marathons, the most pointless sport ever.
They should take the route over roof tops and make them jump gaps in buildings.
Their falling and dying would at least make it interesting.
Think of the viewing figures when some numpty dressed as RoboCop takes a header off a multi storey!

Leave the National alone though, they are only ****ing horses.
As Comm says if they die they can be used for dog food, cosmetics and glue!
WE can even sell them to the French as food.
