So if I've got this right, if something happened 35 years ago there should be no more mention of it - Roll on ten years when your FA cup win will be 35 years old <laugh>

Yeah losing the Cov derby is a fly in the ointment for your lot tasting L1 football

Ah well, if getting relegated means getting rid of our current owners and bringing in some that care and know about footy, it might be worth it. This shower have screwed us up over the last 4 years and have drained the club dry.

I will keep an eye on how you do next season, good luck.

    http://www.awaysupporters.co.uk/league_1
When we went down a few years ago we were the big fish in a small pond, unfortunately no-one in that league will see you as a big fish, with your half empty stadium, I would suggest you play your home games at Bedworth United you might just fill it.

As an ex-pat Cov fan, I'd like to thank all you Leicester fans for your kind words ....both of them!

Given the appalling venom shown by some of our fans when you had the misfortune to be relegated from the Championship - with a record high number of points per game average), I fully accept a lot of the venom you guys are directing our way!

Still, as RobbieTheMole has said, if a drop to League One will encourage this bunch of New York Equity fund based spivs - known as SISU, to jump ship and leave us - it'll be worth it!

However, given the fact that you did have money to spend and were not owned by the Curse of SISU, you lot should have done a LOT better!

I do hope you do stay up, but remember (as Leicester fans love to point out), you won't be getting your traditional 6-points neighbourly handout from us next season!

As for promotion to the Premier League?
I'm sure there's a safety regulation regarding the maximum head size fans can possess for safe admitance to a Premier League ground, so only 17 of your fans will be able to attend games! ;)

    As for Sunderland fans........
Regarding the History between Coventry and Sunderland? It all boils down to a game between Coventry and Bristol City at Highfield Road on the last day on the 1976-77 season. Coventry only had to win or draw that Game for Bristol City to be relegated, while Sunderland were playing at Everton and had only to Draw to be safe. The team that was in the greates risk of dropping was Bristol City, who came to Coventry believing that it was between them and Coventry and their only way of staying up was to win! All that Sunderland had to do was to make sure they didn't lose at Everton and they would have been completely safe!

At the request of the West Midlands Police (NOT Jimmy Hill) the match was delayed for 10 minutes because of heavy congestion and safety concerns due to the large crowd (remember this was Highfield Road - not the bloody Ricoh fiish-bowl!). With 10 minutes to go, Coventry and Bristol were drawing 2-2, when a cheer went up among the crowd that Sunderland had managed to lose 2-0 at Goodison Park. (Everyone I saw in the crowd that day seemed to have one ear to a radio and their eyes focused on the game. So the moment the result was announced on the radio, it was communicated to the people on the pitch by the shouts of the fans!It was already a draw at that point so both teams just knocked the ball around for the last 10 minutes to ensure they were safe.
As someone with Mackem In-laws, I have endured a constant whine for 30 years over that one bloody game, but the fact remains that it was Bristol not Coventry who were the ones in danger at that point in time (since Coventry were dominating that game), and Coventry were unlikely to lose - even had the game played out at the same pace as the Everton game). Sorry Sunderland fans but all you had to bloody do was draw at Goodison and you blew it! (Enjoy our relegation ! - I'm sure it will help compensate you for other inadequacies you may have ;)

If it wasnt for Milan Mandaric relegation to League 1 probably would of been the end of us. We lost over 14M because of relegation

Can Cov afford to do that. And can they afford to stay down?

As you say, Cov fans gave it in bucket loads that fateful day when Leicester pipped Coventry to the Championship exit prize - As such and as accepted by several Coventry fans, what goes around comes around and it's your turn now. I'm not sure about the six point thing, Coventry had a knack of taking points (against the odds and run of play) from us.

I have, out of morbid curiosity, spent several hours reading Sky Blues Talk over the last 24 hours - However, if anyone came into the room I quickly switched over to a gay porn site to reduce the embarrassment - And I notice you have missed a couple of important points from your account of the Bristol City game

    1) the Sunderland score was flashed up on the screen - That is an official announcement and protestations that the crowd was feeding the news to the players does not cover that
    2) Players and officials from both Coventry and Bristol City have since admitted that their actions on that day were deliberate and wrong

Relegation to L1 was. in hindsight, a godsend for us - enabled us to ship out a lot of dead wood and come back leaner, stronger and hungrier ... back in the old 606 days our board was inundated by Cov fans gloating at our relegation, so you will understand some of the comments you are now getting ... as the saying goes ..'what comes around etc' I for one will miss the M69 derbies next season but I wish you good luck and a swift return ... whilst league one is a bit of a humbling experience I reaaly enjoyed it ... visited some cracking grounds full of atmosphere and got the chance to mix with some 'real' footie fans .. some great banter.

Like Fosse said, it was awful getting relegated to the third tier, first time ever especially, but it was humbling and in the long run did us the world of good. I agree about the fans, real matches in real stadiums and some great atmospheres, especially the Cheltenham lot

    Danger Fox,

I was at that game for the "Cardiac special" and the score was flashed onto the screen with less than a few minutes to spare.
That ! is one game even after all these years, that I can still remember- DEFINITELY not a game for weak hearts!

Regarding your 2nd point, THE way to shut my Mackem Inlaws up was to ask them, "if you found out that by playing for a draw, you'd send some other bugger down other than yourselves, would you?", the unanimous reply was " Don't be Bloody daft man!' Of course we would - especially if we could sent the bloody Toon down!" When I then refer them to the Cov-Brizzkle game they start making excuses!

I do agree that while what happend during that game was definetly NOT in the spirit of the Old Corinthians, but It was definitely still legal!

As any lawyer will tell you, "the law has nothing to do with Justice - it is simply the administrative framework by which governments and kings rule!"

The fact is, Leicester had FAR more reason to feel hard done by - when they dropped to the 3rd Division. than Sunderland did when they went down! - which is another reason why I, as a Coventry fan, simply could not bring myself to gloat at the time you lot dropped!

Had you been absolute ****e, however - I'd have let the bloke from Hinckley who lives 5 doors down from me, NEVER forget it, but to be fair when you went down, you went down with a points average that had you been a Prem team would have placed you 14th in the nancy boy league! - Sorry I meant the Premier League! You and ourselves both had a pointper-game average better than 8 of the Premier League teams.
Altoguh it pains me to admit it, you lot went down with your heads held high! Any other season you'd have survived!
We on the other had, went down with a whimper and THAT is the hardest thing to stomach! My current Missus is half-Finnish and the misuse of that glorious Finnish word "Sisu" by the current bunch of spivs who own my clubh, NEVER ceases to cause offence!

I suggest to both Cov and Leiceseter fans they look up the word "sisu" - see how it encompases teh attitude of Keeping your word, never giving up, beeing stubborn and bloody minded - but always honourable . . and they think on what a perversion of that honourable word, the current owners of Coventry are! I would not wish SISU - Coventry's owners on ANY team in the Premier or Football leagues.

On another note, I honestlly think the heart went out of my club, the day we left Highfield Road. Which leads me to ask , I often wonder whether Leicester fans miss Filbert Street!

Anyway, good luck to those Leciester fans who still continued to support their club in the 3rd Division - you have earned the right to gloat over us. We deserve it!

As for the others who buggered off when you were in League 1 but somehow found the fortitude to "discover their love for the Foxes" once they were back in Div 2 (sorry I meant the so called bloody "Championship") . . . . get stuffed! I know at least half of the Leicester fans I know here in Canada who suddely found other interests while the 5 others who live close by me, took the banter on the chin like gentlemen!

I will continue to follow the Sky Blues until the day the Grim reaper comes to me (for his kick in the balls), regardless of whether they are Premier League One or even Blue Square League, and I will always enjoy a pint with any fan who feels the same about their club!

As for the rest of you? - I do have a soft spot for you . . . it's called the Challenger Deep - or failing that, the Hoirizon Deep!

My apologies for the misspellings but I am trying to type this crap on an Adroid (should be called "haemoerroid" Cellphone), so unfortunately soe words do not actually appear the way I thought I'd typed them!

(No, Danger Fox, that IS the reason for the typos, - I am definitely NOT a Journalist for the Graundiad, on the grounds that:-
    a) I can actually spell long words (more than four letters( and speak several languages
( I've been red-carded on Three Continents - how was I to know that "Puta", "Kis", "Malarkos" were NIT the local translation for "Referee" ;))
    b) I do have a slighly higher IQ than that of a Traffic Bollard. (Unlike 99% of Journalists!)
    c) I am not "too ugly to make it as a Rent Boy so I became a Journalist" ! (Unlike most of the Beeb!)

Remember, Danger Fox, The Rent Boys play at the Bernebau! - NOT the Ricoh!)

Anyway, have a good week everyone!

Like a lot of City fans said, you do meet a lot of real fans in Lge 1.
Yeovil on a freezing Monday night standing on the terracing, when I could have watched it in the Pub in front of a blazing log fire.
Cheltenham fans / police were among the best, you turn up at the Railway Station to be met by the local constabulary and they hand out maps of the town to show you where the pubs are.
Or the comfy padded seats at MK Dons.
Or the Death Valley Stadium watching us play Rotherham in the JPT and it bleeding rained, but than again this is what real football grounds are like
