Are you any clearer on who goes, my guess is ones in bold go Goalkeepers 1 Gordon 20 Westwood 22 Mignolet Defenders 2 Bardsley 3 Bridge 4 Turner 5 Brown 11 Richardson 12 Kilgallon 16 O'Shea 19 Bramble 25 Kyrgiakos Angeleri Midfielders 6 Cattermole 7 Larsson 8 Gardner 14 Colback 15 Vaughan 18 Meyler 23 McClean 27 Elmohamady 28 Sessegnon Forwards 9 Campbell 10 Wickham 17 Ji 38 Lynch 52 Bendtner Gyan So, Bridge and the Greek sent back along with Bendy. Wickham maybe on loan.
Agree with post Syd, keep Wickham imo, as you say possibly going out on loan. Can we keep Sess? Who are we bringing in tho? I would think MON will have known since January who he was targetting but can we get them. We need a strong finish tho to keep a reasonable position in table to tempt them here.
i dont know why he is still playing bentner, unless he's looking to buy him! for me it should be ji or campbell or both starting to see if there good enough if not he can look to get rid in the summer..
Yeah I pretty much agree with that. Meyler may go on loan?? Looking at the team like that...as a squad we are really weak....nobody really jumps out. Much improvement needed.
I'd like to keep Riccho and Wickham, everyone else in bold yeah, see ya later. We need to look at some African players to bring in. I hope Marty has already had some scouts over there scouring the continent.
I would love to keep Richardson but think it may be time for him to be a big time player with another team, always seems a bit part player with us.
Problem with "Africa" is that we could lose players for a couple of months with African Nations Cup ... a BIG probem with wafer thin squads.
Is the African nations cup every 4 years? If so then its not a problem for the next few seasons. Have a feeling Mon will bring in 5 first teamers with the money raised from sales of gyan sessegnon and Gardner and probably Richardson. 2 strikers 1 attacking midfielder 1 left back 1 centre back
Would rather have players MoN knows and wants rather than just say we need Africans. Just because Cisse and Ba have had a good year, there are as many pitfalls out there as well like Gyan. I think looking at our team and squad its even more remarkable that Martin has manged to turn it round. I think it puts to bed the claim that Bruce bought well because after his 2.5 years, we are still a million miles away from being a good team and we have no strikers - something that has blighted us for nearly 1.5 years now. I bet after 2.5 years of a MoN reign, we WILL look like a good team.
It can't be that bad a squad as we are sitting 10th and we haven't won in 5 matches. The cup run has indeed took it's toll. Season now over. 2 home games to go though and I'd like to see two wins. 47 points looked easy a couple of weeks ago but now I'm not so sure.
I didn't make any reference to Cisse and Ba, I just think African players are fast becoming a dominant force in world football and we could take advantage of that.
It would have been interesting to see how many goals gyan might have got with McClean, Larsson and sessegnon supplying him.
It's fair to say that when you look at the squad overall, the thing that screams out is a lack of creativity, a really major lack of it. Only Sessegnon has a creative spark, and whilst Seb & McLean can create chances in a direct and orthodox manner, they don't exactly bamboozle the opposition. The midfielder with the best eye for a pass is Vaughan, but even though he is immaculate, neat & tidy, he still lacks vision. With Bendtner gone, our options up-front are woeful. We all got carried away with Frazier as we like him, and we wanted him to recover, but in reality, he doesn't score enough (although is a great support striker or option from bench due to a great work rate). Whickham needs a LOT of work, although the potential is there, Ji is miles of PL standard. So, in my opinion, we should move Colback to left back, and then the defence although not perfect, is solid enough. We will then need, if we want to genuinely compete for Europe, a pacy right midfielder, a centre midfielder who can pick a pass, run with the ball at pace, and ideally shoot (...Riveros? Who knows..). 2 forwards as a minimum, if we don't retain Bendtner, which I personally hope we do, we need THREE strikers. I don't think we need too much after that, although i'd like to be greedy and suggest a dominant ball playing CB would be lovely as well. As the club is promoting itself in Africa, i'm sure we'll be looking at potential African signings to boost this, bear in mind Gyan has been an exception, there are stacks of top class African footballers in our league.
I'm guessing your on my lines of thinking with regards to the Africans... Why single this continent out, when we have been far from lucky.. Muntari.............crock of **** Mensah............just a crock Elmo................less said the better Gyan................money grabbing cnut Sess.................the only exception
Obviously, this is a valid point, but so is the list below.... Drogba - World Star Kalou - Excellent, underused (could we??) Ba - Goal Machine Cisse - As above Yaya Toure - One of leagues best Kolo Toure - Cracking defender Yakubu - Guranteed goals Adebayor - On his day, sensational. Tiote - Soft as ****e, enormous forehead It's not that Africans aren't a great option, more that we signed the wrong ones. Different manager now.
The strangest thing is that Muntari is now on loan to AC Milan. Just been looking at Yakubu career stats, if Blackburn go down i hope we are at the front of the cue. No one better for that kind of price imo.
Yep, he'd have been great for us this season. You see yesterday he tried an overhead backheel and hits the post? Pure strikers instinct to try something, we have no forward with that instinct, not one.
Id like to keep Richardson, think well struggle to keep sess. But never think its a good idea to make major changes like Bruce did, you wait a quarter of a season for them to gel. We just need 3 quality players, one or 2 loans aswell. Major changes will end up with a squad of average.
