If you could have taken a win at home against an already relegated club to seal promotion on the last day of the season you would have snatched their hand off. This squad have done us proud! Whatever the Hammers do a win in our last game and we are up!

We can and will do this

Talking sense won't work on here I'm afraid.

A thread about how we're not good enough and have no pace etc etc is what people seem to prefer.

we've won two of our last six. Regardless of the opposition, I'm far from confident.

Offer 1 in 3 odds of promotion at the start of the season yeah, snap your hands off. In January, I hoped for the title :(

I'm just looking forward to the last game. Let's face it, we are in pole position right now. Sure we blow the chance to win the league today but that's it, promotion is more than in our hands still. Coventry I'm sure will be more open now as they have nothing to lay for which is too our advantage. Chin up lads, west ham have to win Monday, anything less and it's over for them anyway.

Surely this is what being a saints supporter is all about. When have we ever done anything the easy way? I am still confident that come Saturday afternoon we will be promoted.

For those who cannot remember the rollercoaster of the Premier League years, Buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

New poster here so cut me some slack please.

BUT - get real we would have taken where we are now 8 months ago.

I think Wet Spam will beat Leicester and Hull and I think we will beat Coventry - to hedge my bets I have bet 4 grand that West ham will win promotion. Thankfully I am not a poor man and will happily write that off on Monday or next Saturday. I'm horribly superstitious and the best way to ensure that we get to where we belong was to tempt fate - my wife will kill me but hey !

I live in the Middle East and not being able to go to the games is a killer and tonight was no different - watching it on the TV or listening on the radio is far worse than being there. However when I think back to Easter 1984 when we were in touching distance of so many great things and came out with nothing after the Everton and Arsenal games (for those of you old enough to remember) it reminded of the feelings I had today.

But this time is different - worst case scenario we end up in the play offs (and I don't think we will) but you know what I don't think we'd win them.

However the five year plan wouldn't go out of the window. We would strengthen where we would need to and in the Championship that wouldn't need too much though agree with others that Jose has looked increasingly liable so another back up as CB to put him and AM on their toes would be required. Perhaps a CM with a bit of steel to guide what is already a PL midfield in the making might be useful. With Chung back we would have the best front line in the Championship and one that could probably do the business in the PL.

My view is that next Saturday I will be sitting here in the desert with a feeling I haven't had since 1978 - Saints being promoted to the top flight.

And for what it's worth (and again perhaps it's because I'm older than most) delighted as I am to see the Blue Few go down I hope their club survives because like the majority on here I love the banter and we need them to be there to beat them and humiliate them.

    Chins up everyone.

If you don't clinch second, I doubt anyone would bet against you beating Cardiff in the playoff semis.

If we win against Coventry, we go up.

If we draw against Coventry, we likely go up.

If we lose against Coventry, there's still a substantial chance that we go up.

    6-4

Basically if they do the impossible - I've checked the rules and if it comes down to same goal difference and same goals scored we go up on head to head results.

If they win their two games 2-0 and we draw 0-0 then we have same goal difference and same goals scored but we win on head to head.

Work all else out from that that.

If we go up then I don't give a flying F**K but best case scenario is that Wet Spam go up through the play offs but I don't really care as I want us up and if my silly superstitions cost me 4 grand for us to go up then small price to pay (kids future and education aside etc but hey they will be Saints for life so will understand). I have had too much heartache to worry about it now.

This is how i take this match, first thing first is that bollocks about we can't win on sky because we have this season so people who think we cant get over it (were on sky sports 2 against cov) also i am not going to pay an attention to west ham as the still have two tough fixtures and believe me leicster and hull will still want to beat west ham. And lastly we have beat coventry two times this season and the are already relgated we have a stronger squad so if are players go out there with confindence and determantion to get to the PL then we will do it.All i have to say know is COYRS

Going back to the OP, Lamballana is spot on. When I first saw the fixture list I had the last home game down as a win and wondered if that might simply be a nice end to the season or a relegation avoiding win. Automatic promotion? Come on, guys, we're in dreamland.

Why are we in dreamland ? We have a good side , better than most and fir most of the season we have been proving that , of course I am happy where we are but we are making a very hard job of what should of been pretty easy from what has been achieved .

We can only remain optimistic because we all know that Coventry at home is a game we should win we also know that football can kick you in the bollocks as well. But overall you would look back on the season with pride .Our style of football has been saluted by many we have great support ,players and managment and had we had not stormed this div as we have for a good part of the campaign we would have celebrated the play offs as a massive achievment .Maybe we are all a bit miffed because i think we all fancied finishing the job last night but in the cold light of day lets all regroup look forward and enjoy reaching our goal on our own patch next sat.Lets not forget that this div is a battleground and anyone who gets promoted usually loses around ten games last season Swansea lost 14 games down here so we should not underestimate the efforts of our team

Of course we are all frustrated but this squad and club have exceeded all our expectations this season and we are one game away from promotion. All the pressure at the moment is on West Ham!

Agreed that they have exceed all expectations, but I'm still incredibly dissapointed that after leading for so long we threw away the title and keep letting west ham back in it. I really cant see WH losing monday and thats what worries me. On paper cov at home is nice and easy- but saints really dont seem to do well under pressure this season
