Apparently EUFA won't recognise sponsored named stadiums such as the one up the road, and the Emirates etc..., well they can call it St James' if they want, but to us it will always be the good old Ashley's Sports Direct Arena.
With ffp naming rights will be more and more common. Its all about money but i just pray we get a decent name and keep the sol in the name ie the Samsung stadium of light. We could end up With eggs on our faces with something like The Tombola bowl so we have to be carefull when mocking our neighbours
UEFA have called stadiums by their sponsored names for 20 years, bar FIFA tournaments (World Cup, basically...)
More to the point, what the hell is the Emirates called if we don't call it the Emirates ? I thought some of these new build stadiums were just called sponsors names, they just going to make something else up a la Pro-Evo "and meanwhile at Manchester Blues stadium..."
ISS/ProEvo was awesome but the naming cracked me up! I'd love it if that actually happened but it never would. Everyone still says St. James' and Upton Park etc
but they dont say The Boleyn Ground which is actually its proper name, mind you Upton park is just the park its on, its not a sponsor, my point is, they call it something else rather that its official name. so over the years its changed and now most call it Upton park, so in a few years most will call Newcastles ground, Sports Direct Arena. (if he keeps it like that)
TAMPAX STADIUM,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,full of bleedi ****s. Sorry couldnnt resist.
When it's a FIFA Tournament (World Cup) if the ground doesn't have an "unofficial / historical" name then they make one up for the duration of the tournament as All Stadia must be 100% clean of advertising or else FIFA will not allow a host country to stage any of their tournaments. All press references during the Tournament & there after must refer to the stadium by the name used during the Tournament or future press accreditation can be revoked - FIFA Rules. In the case of SDA they would use a simple name. Eg - City of Newcastle Stadium or Newcastle Regional Stadium.
If I remember right, it was simply called 'The Arsenal Stadium', Highbury was the area it was in, and the name stuck.
Correct, just reminded me on when somebody mentioned the Boleyn Ground, a lot of people won't believe it wasn't called Upton park.
I remembered going away down there and it said 'Arsenal Stadium' on the ticket, I was only a young lad and had my uncles head done in saying it's called Highbury! Sid, Look rather nice the apartments!
