The flat season is well underway and tomorrow we have some decent racing from Newbury and the will it be contraversial Scottish Grand National from Ayr. 14.00 Newbury- Harris Tweed- 7/4 One of my favourite horses on the flat. The way he covers the ground with his massive strides like no other is extraordinary. Although there is a new star in the stable in Beat It. This horse contains a lot of class, he has one a couple of G2's and gave st nicholas abbey a good run for his money last year. He goes well fresh and although is a small but strong field, this is his chance to run the race from the front and with Fiorente unlikely to run tomorrow. My boy can take gold tomorrow!
The last two runnings of the Scottish National have both been on good ground as you would expect at this time of year. So although its a marathon its not really a slog. In the last two runnings MERIGO has won by 9 lengths off a mark of 127 and been a 3/4 length second last year off a mark of 142. He bounced right back to form at the track on his latest run which proved two things, one his well being and the other his liking for Ayr. In fact his course stats read 3112121 which is mightily impressive. It's all too easy to look for horses to beat him but in reality he has all the credentials and he is extremely fairly treated off a mark of 134. Timmy Murphy has won on three times so the right man is in the plate. I quite like a few others off similar marks to run well, Quentin Collonges, Any Currency and Be There In Five should all go well but the case for MERIGO 15-2 is compelling!
Agree with you on Merigo stick, I think Ikorodu Road is good e/w value @ 12/1, so my money will be on those two.
14.35 Newbury- Best Terms- 7/4 (NAP) Lumped on her when she was 12/1 in the Queen Mary Stakes at ascot last year. The Hannon yard is on fire at the mo, with banging in winners left right and centre at this weeks craven meeting. This young fillie has the form book to follow up. She sets a high standard on her her juvenile form and is difficult to oppose. And at this price is a steal. I doubt it will last tho!
stick, although still think he is bit out of his league! Sayin that he is a class horse and wouldnt suprise me if he came close
Very keen on the chances of Nazreef (3.45) at Newbury - gets in on his turf rating of 87 but won the London Mile in authoritative fashion 2 weeks ago on the Polytrack off 96. Has looked better than ever on switching back to the flat after being highly tried over hurdles and has some decent form on soft, most notably a close up 4th to Leviathan over a mile at Salisbury off 85.
Ikorodu Road for me as well. Stays forever and is a false price because of form with the favourite when he was below his best. Also fancy Red Merlin in the Scottish Champion so that will be it for me tomorrow.
I think Ikorodu Road will be very popular on the boards tomorrow, best take an early price then. The last winner i had of the Scottish national was Hot Weld a few year back so hopefully Ikorodu can do it tomorrow.
Ikorodu Road will be going five furlongs further than he has ever been before. Will have to defy a career high mark to win and probably has as much temperament as ability. Best of luck guys but he doesnt shout "back me" at me!
Merigo it is and it's on your head stick ok! Joking, my bet won't be with the intention of cleaning the bookies out, i won't get that involved in this race, i do like Merigo also by the way. Goodluck.
Walkon very interesting for me in the Scottish National ................. could turn out to be a revelation at the trip
cheers STH, as ever I always wish everyone on this forum good fortune....even NASS....it's all about beating the common foe ;-)
14.50 Ayr- Tetlami - 7/1 Didnt do any harm finishing in midfield at this years festival in the supreme. Is going off a fairly decent mark but it is intresting that barry has deserted him in this race in favour of Petit Robin, but am willing to give him another shot.
13.30 Newbury- Noble Mission Will go off probably a short price favourite but Frankel's full he will inevitably be the focus of attention but one negative is, he is hooded suggests he's not entirely straightforward. However, he's still the one to beat on the evidence of a pleasing Yarmouth debut behind Swedish Sailor last autumn, albeit beaten five lengths by the impressive winner.
hey chaps, the owners of Galaxy Rock are very bullish that it will go close tomorrow, been laid out for this race for months. Spoke to a connection earlier today and horse is tip-top apparently.. gl
Abbeybraney is shortning for the Scottish National- 33's in to 25's - same with Galaxy Rock 10's in to 8's could be pricewise selections!
Changed my mind for thr scottish national am now on Knockara Beau He is a regular strong stayer over three miles or a bit further at Cheltenham in the last couple of seasons or so and it was only a matter of time before he was given the opportunity to test his stamina at a marathon trip. Although it's over a year since he last won, defying topweight in desperate ground at Carlisle over hurdles, he's maintained his form pretty well and goes to Ayr in excellent fettle after finishing a very creditable sixth to Synchronised in the Gold Cup
Fruity O'rooney for me in SGN Dubawi Sound at Newbury Smartly socks at thirsk Specific at Wolverhampton Small stakes Luck 15 Grahame Lee rides on the flat at thirsk today on Hot rod Mamma
