For free and a low wage as back up I'd take him but no more just for depth really for when our midfield is bare

He has been totally **** for Villa, Tiote is in his position so Reo-Coker would as you say be back up. He would be ok to keep the numbers up but I haven't rated him in a while.

He was one of the cover player before Germany 06, so Pardew must have had a good effect on him, but can't help but feel he's went backwards since then.

Definatley as a replacement for Smith.

As the article says he's be free and I doubt his wages would be high.

Thing is though, depending on the shape Pardew's looking to employ (looking like 4-4-2 atm) would he be happy to come in as cover for Tiote?

Yeah but he still has time to get back on track. Tiote has been suspended for 6 games this season. And we have struggled to replace him when this has happened. Therefore I would sign him to cover for any possible suspensions.

Another thing Pardew did at the start of his reign was bring Smith on for Nolan or a striker to help close games out, so this would help close games out, which we could have done with for Sunderland and Tottenham.

Granted but I want to see more of Gosling, as I believe he can play that role 2.

Dont really want him, probably a better option available for a still low fee. Better and younger than Smith though, and lower wages. If he would come knowing he'd only be cover I woulnt mind, and he would be another English player. Like to think we should aim higher though.

Gosling isn't suited to the 'enforcer' type roll, he's more of a playmaker or (if you play with him on FIFA) attacking Mid. Dont think i would be too comfortable with him playing defensive.

Saying that, i wouldn't want Reo-Coker. I think if we want to be top 10 and challenging for Europe (as Ashley, Llambias and Pards have said) we need a higher caliber of player then this.

I think that as he is on a free and would also be on a sensible wage, he would be very good back up for when Tiote is suspended or on international duty at the African Cup of Nations.

I think that Smith will be sold in the summer.

Instead of Reo-Coker I'd have Andreas Ottl who is also available on a free - from Germany.

Good player and the song is written.

Witsel wouldn't join without first team assurances and a decent wage.

Reo-Coker I still believe would demand 30-35k p/w as he is coming in on a free transfer. We will be battling the newly promoted teams for his signature I reckon.

Andreas Ottl of FC Bayern? :/ Would he really sign for the Toon? I thought he would more than likely be staying in Germany, if not at Bayern.

Never been a fan to be honest. If he was free and his wages fairly low I wouldn't be appalled if we signed him, but I'd rather we found somebody else or used Gosling as backup.
