John Percy has said we are going to make another bid for him of around 1M. Its alot for a non league player but he could turn out to be bargain of the century if he can replicate some of his form for us
Its good that we start looking for potential players but transfers can't officially take place until 1 July.
so the speculation starts here.. slight lad ,one for the future...does know where the oinion bag is though.. Im sure like last year he is the first of 327 strikers we will be linked with. we might even get one before the window closes...
Le Fondre has recently shown the valus of a hungry lower league striker given an opportunity in the Championship - would much have preferred us spending on Jordan Rhodes rather than Mills and Beckford, if I'm honest ... and why Tunch hasn't been given a run out is beyond me - he did really well for Palace at the start of the season - if he's fit I'd love to see him in the remaining games - we have nothing to lose now
We've been linked with him under the rpevious NP reign so he obviously thinks there is some potential if he is still interested. Grant Holt made the jump from the Conf. so who knows....
I would have a go at Jordan Rhodes aswell. Its unlikely but if we offer around 3M who knows. I would much rather we have a front line with people like Rhodes, Vardy, Nugent and Waghorn then what Sven got with Yakubu, Beckford and Kamara. Yes they are very good players but dont work hard enough or have the right attitude needed in this league
I agree your general point but actually think that if we had got Yakubu for the whole of this season we would have made the play-offs ... he has a lot of quality in front of goal and with good' service you'd expect him to get around 25 goals plus at this level over a full season
Yes Yak will defo get you goals but he doesnt work hard enough for the team. Nigel would never of put up with him. We need to defend better as a team and that includes the striker chasing down the defenders. Nugent works hard enough and we know Waghorn and Vassell would if they played but Beckford dont
Ideally you buy a striker who works hard and scores goals. But given a choice do you buy a 'lazy' striker who can score goals e.g. Yakubu or someone who will run through brick walls that doesn't e.g Stevie Howard? The British/English mentality always seems to be hard work over end result which is why Glen Hoddle , Le Tissier etc etc never played that many games for England. Needless to say England have never done much since '66. We continue to make the same mistakes. We are playing Gareth Barry in the midfield for gods sake! Is that really the best that our nation can come up with for the Euros? - A slight deviation at the end there ladies and gentleman, but you get the point I'm making.
I can't see it myself, im guessing that Mills and Tunch may be out at the end of the season, but we'd still have 3 centre-backs and Pelts as cover.
Just a paper rumour. I think he was one of the many we looked at before going for Morgan. I think we'll end up with another CB this summer, because Nigel seems dead keen on Chester.
I dont know. I think we might be in the market for a centre half with Mills and Tunchev and maybe even Bamba leaving. I got a feeling there could be some interest in James Chester again
Id take Chester/Hobbs- no other CB would improve us imo. I like the vardy rumour- my favourite type!!!
It's pretty likely you won't get Chester as he says he's happy at us and would like a new deal, you won't get Shackell either as Derby need him, I think Vardy is a quality player, real workhorse on the wing and upfront with quality pace, good control and a cracking shot and finish, the reason his work rate is so high is because he wants to prove himself in the official leagues, he is worth every of the 1mil he is valued at, i'd trade Stewart for him anyday.
I think we will need a centre half and Nigel clearly like Chester and there was apparent interest from us in Jan so im just putting 2 and 2 together. Just because were interested dont mean we will either bid for him or sign him. OLM keeps saying he thinks Stewart is heading this way so time will tell with that one but we do need another winger to add to what we have. I would have Vardy as he looks a very decent player and can add some decent depth to our strike force with Howard and Beckford looking like they are going to leave
Depending if we get any transfer budget next season I don't think the Allams would be best pleased if Barmby blew 1mil on a non league player, obviously you can take the risk on Vardy as you are well funded, I think we will get 1.5million to 2million next season if not anything, Barmby should spend it wisely with 500k-800k spent the most on one player with free transfers and loans, but if you do get him he will give Beckford a run for his money if not Marshall and Dyer on the wings.
Beckford will be more then likely leaving. Waghorn, Nugent and Schlupp will probably be the only strikers we have that stay. Vardy is a massive risk to teams at this level as 1M for a non league player is hell of alot.
