Don't get me wrong, I am really pleased about how much our team is progressing and thankfully Europe looks almost nailed on. However, where are all our English players? At the moment we have Simpson and Williamson in our starting line-up and occasionally Guthrie. Guthrie seems annoyed at his lack of first team action, Simpson is unsettled and Williamson is never our permanent CB. There are rumours circulating of Vertonghen arriving...possibly to replace the injury prone Saylor?

I know a lot of you won't see this as a problem but I can't help but be a bit upset that we aren't helping England's cause, as we used to field many English players. It must make you a LITTLE annoyed there are more French players in our team than English?

Also, I'm sure there is some regulation coming in which says we have to field a certain amount? Or is that just for home-grown players? In either case, I think we might end up struggling.

True. We should sign more players like Carroll, Henderson, Downing.

I heard English players are good value for money at the moment?

I couldn't careless about that ''southern club'' that play at Wembley. It's all about NUFC and our players

True. Lets just use Liverpool's failure in one season to justify never signing an English player again.

They can be good value for money, it wasn't Newcastle, Villa or Sunderland's fault Liverpool offered those prices. You could go into a corner shop and offer £20 for a Cadbury's Creme Egg and they'd take it...doesn't mean it is worth that much.

It's not just this season. I can't remember the last English player who was value for money. Cabaye is better than Gareth Barry, Milner etc. One cost 4.5m the others were something stupid (I can't remember off top of my head). The only possible way to encorporate english players into our team would be the Saylor way. Bring them in as a youth and hope they develop.

Young James Travernier looks like another English to break through into our team.

Would you of paid the transfer fee that they cost for any of the English national team? Peter Crouch at 30 cost the same as Cisse (if not more) ffs.

The regualtion isn't about the numbeer of English players - - the Bosman case held that to be illegal.

The ruling is about the number of home grown players. Krul, for example, is a home grown player under that definition, as will be Vukic, Abeid and Ferguson, as well as the Ameobi' and several others. We're actually fairly well off in that regard, comparatively speaking

I don't think we could help England's cause even if we wanted to, and quite frankly I don't...Perfect example of this is Pardew meeting Capello at an LMA meal and suggesting he should come up North and take a look at Stevie Taylor, Capello's response "we have enough midfielders."

The fact is, for whatever reason, are better value for money and as such, provide clubs like ourselve, with a smaller budget, with better quality than we could have, when buying...Granted Mike Williamson at £1m, Danny Simpson at £750k, James Perch at £1m and Leon Best at £2m are all decent enough, but in order to step up to the next level, I personally think our only option is to buy foreign.

As others have said, the homegrown rule allows our young foreigners to be considered homegrown, so I expect to see us doing a lot of 'Barcelona-esque' poaching of top class 16/17 year olds from all over the world, as they appear financially at least, to be far less of a gamble!

That's good then. How much did you spend?

We've spent £15m on our existing academy to make it into a cat 1 academy.

To be honest, our board are fairly cagey about releasing figures and finances, but the rumours coming form inside St James' is that we're gunna be letting something like 80% of the current development squad go and bringing in more promising replacements, I have no idea how much this will cost or how quickly it'll happen, but with our current U18s looking all set to win their Academy league title and players like Amalifito (sp?) coming in, next year will be an interesting one!

I'm not the least bit annoyed about the amount of foreign players in our team. What matters is that we've got a team to be proud of that play for each other and us, and play excellent football that thrills and entertains us and are doing us proud.

And some of what we've got at senior level is rubbing off on the kids too. It's got to be good for them being part of such a great squad of senior players.

We had English players, they did well. We now have other players, they've done better.

It would've disappointed me if we'd had English players that were playing for England, but the fact that, regardless of how well our English players do, a poorer player from daan saaarf is picked ahead of them gives me a bit of a siege mentality against England and so I couldn't care less where our players are from as long as they do well
