So far we have been buying young players with a wage cap in place

Gone are the days where we spend huge amounts on transfers with life long contracts peaking at 100k

We have now become a very efficient club almost making a profit

So if we get in CL what do we do?

Do we break the bank to compete?

We would obviously need to strengthen to get better quality players in but they will come at a price

We need to make sure we dont get carried away trying to sign players on the basis of playing CL every year

I personally think we should still be sensible and not pay 120k a week wages and ****.

But there's no way we can stay where we are by hunting around for cheap bargains anymore. We will need to spend a bit.

I think the fact we will be playing in the competition will actually benefit us when it comes to negotiating wages, in all possiblity, we may be able to offer lower than we previously would to attract the same player without it. Plus the fact the massive income boost given would pay for at least one or two new players on top of what they've already budgeted for.

MA won't break the bank, but you've got to speculate to accumulate and his advisors will no doubt be letting him know of the profits to be made playing in the CL. Maybe he'll even be thinking of catching the eye of a mega rich Sheik who'll give him what he wants for the club.

If we do get in its gotta be the perfect time for MA to cash in

His long term goal has always been to sell on for a profit since the Football buying boom few years ago

Its just never worked out for the Fat man, hes finally got his house in order wont be suprised it we start getting linked with foreign tycoons

It will saty the same! we will sell our best players for high prices and then buy better ones for a fraction of the cost of those sold.

At least that's what MA will think is possible every time now.

I think given CL Football we might go for Vertonghen but the policy should stay the same.

There's no way the policy will change much. It may mean we hold on to more players than we would have, and perhaps than we bring in an extra player in the summer, but they'll still be mostly unknown who we've scouted well (hopefully) for not massive amounts and not on major money.

Even if we get CL and then buy new players we'd still be 6th or 7th best team to compete for the top 4 so its a big gamble, spending to repeat success is what landed us in trouble previously, i don't mind if we consolidate and end up being a 7th-10th team who have the odd cup run and tilt at european places in the league to be honest as i think its sustainable. Top 4 for just isn't in the current climate.

I wish people would realise the champions league idea is really just a dream! we have the hardest run in I have eber seen in my life FFS. I'm happy with europa and think that is where it ends in terms of going any higher.

I think we would keep the wage structure the same but pay out a bonus to the players based on CL progression etc... Almost like a profit share scheme

This....... We know we won't win it and therefore we need to buy players who want to blend into the current ethos... Thus I believe we should stick to our policy.

50k a week for top players... Not galacticos... Is fine and the added benefit of European football should mean we attract bett players too.

It makes you wonder. Imagine if we finish 4th.... ffs imagine it??

Who would we sign? Really who would we sign?

    Man!

I don't know what to think about our team. We just have to focus on the next game.

One game at a time, always the best way to go.

It could easily end up being an anti climax... Best to just be happy with what we have now. I mean it's almost certain we will end up 6th min.... That's still one epic achievement in my mind. Something to really build on.

IF we were to manage CL qualifcation, MA would realise that it added enormous value to the club, and also would provide an extraa £20 million or so of income.

While that sounds like a lot, it oens't go far if you're foolish with it. I think it would mean we sold fewer (perhaps none) of our better players and that it might mean we purchased a first rate CB, rather than promising kids for the future. That CB would still likely be someone I have never heard of, or at least know very little about, who would see it as their chance to jump from the Bundeliga, or wherever, to a Prem CL club - - cheapish and ambitious. I wouldn't expec to see any first string additions beyond a CB and a LB, though. Plenty of promising talent, not many starters

changing the wage structure for new players would undermine the current players who got us into the CL in the first place...Besides, there are plenty of great players in 'less desirable' leagues who would still get a massive pay rise with a contract within our wage structure!

We've been linked with Marvin Martin before. It's probably pure speculation, but Carr/Pardew must have seen him play while they were out watching Maiga.

CL would make coming here a lot more interesting for him, considering he's scrapping against relegation in ligue 1, but he'd probably cost a bomb and more established teams would be in for him. I'd only consider him as a plan B if the Hazard deal somehow collapses though, obviously.

Marvin Martin is pretty highly rated, that's not to say there's no chance we could sign him but i'm not convinced we're interested in players where we could get dragged into a bidding war and he's someone i would imagine going to Arsenal if he came to the prem. Honestly doubt we'll hear much of the players we're going to sign until we see them in a newcastle top, that's how we've been for a couple of years now and its working wonders.
