Whilst i agree that there were specific games when we gave away points, alot of our problems stem from the fact that since we beat stoke we have only picked up 2 points away from home in 11 games, if that is not relegation form i don't know what is!!!!!
We need the same miracle we have needed for weeks. Our wins against Liverpool, Arse and Swansea kept our head above water but just go to show how tough the situation was in the first place. The damage was done months ago not last night. The miracle is still possible and Wigan themselves have survived in much mire tenuous circumstances BUT we do need to throw caution to the wind now. The performance against West Brom was that of a team waiting for their summer holidays not one battling for survival.
Obviously there have been numerous twists n turns already and I do expect one or two more, but it is looking more and more likely that it will be Wolves, Blackburn and us or Bolton... Here is the results I have pencilled in...this will keep us up on GD by my count Saturday, 21 April 2012 Aston Villa v Sunderland 2 1 Blackburn v Norwich 2 1 Bolton v Swansea 1 1 Fulham v Wigan 2 0 QPR v Tottenham 1 3 Sunday, 22 April 2012 Wolves v Man City 1 3 Tuesday, 24 April 2012 Aston Villa v Bolton 2 1 Saturday, 28 April 2012 Sunderland v Bolton 2 0 Swansea v Wolves 1 1 West Brom v Aston Villa 1 1 Wigan v Newcastle 2 1 Sunday, 29 April 2012 Chelsea v QPR 3 1 Tottenham v Blackburn 3 1 Wednesday, 2 May 2012 Bolton v Tottenham 1 2 Sunday, 6 May 2012 Aston Villa v Tottenham 1 2 Blackburn v Wigan 2 0 Bolton v West Brom 2 1 QPR v Stoke 2 0 Wolves v Everton 2 1 Sunday, 13 May 2012 Chelsea v Blackburn 3 1 Man City v QPR 2 0 Norwich v Aston Villa 1 0 Stoke v Bolton 1 1 Wigan v Wolves 2 1 edit: no doubt my hit rate is likely to be about 20%, so were probably going down!!
I never thought Cisse deserved a red for that, even though it was a stupid thing to do. We got Clattenberg again Saturday with Mason as 4th Official!!! But as I said there are many games and events to blame. We could blame our very bad 1st day of the season loss at home to Bolton, the ref disallowing Clint's goal at Bolton, our failure to beat a poor Wigan team away, Neal signing Barton, Barton's incorrect red home to Norwich, the long time it has taken MH to find a formation that works, MH's negative set up away from home, Cisse's red at Sunderland, Mason at United, SWP disallowed goal home to West Brom, no funds for Neal until so late, our failure to make great performances at home to Newcastle and Villa translate to 3 points, and I have not scratcherd the surface yet! Hopefully in a months time we will only remember the 4 last wins culminating with us beating Citeh when they just needed a point to take the title!! Then we'll be having a few drinks!!
I don't see a way out now that Wigan have pulled 5 points clear of the drop zone. Bolton have an additional two games more than us which is the potential to nick 6 points but also to scrape a couple of draws. Two points might be the difference between them and us & Blackburn. Lose or draw against Spuds and it is over, we'll just be fighting over 18th or 19th spot. Games are running out to hope Wigan go back to losing ways or Villa continue their descent. It is way past squeaky bum time, we have had a prolapse! It would be nice to collect another couple of scalps before the end, just to restore some pride at work where I am surrounded by plastic supporters from many gloating teams. Rest assured I shall be purchasing a season ticket again for the next campaign wherever we end up playing our football. Circle of Life and all that!
Here's another way of looking at it Saturday, 21 April 2012 Aston Villa v Sunderland 1 2 Blackburn v Norwich 0 1 Bolton v Swansea 1 2 Fulham v Wigan 2 0 QPR v Tottenham 1 0 Sunday, 22 April 2012 Wolves v Man City 2 6 Tuesday, 24 April 2012 Aston Villa v Bolton 2 0 Feel better?
Yes it is looking pretty bad and there seems like little place we can go to get any comfort especially from reading the remaining fixtures..assuming wolves are down...its between 3 possibly four teams. first bit of luck our way is that we have the late game on saturday so we should will know wot the other clubs have done. unfortunately we will need swansea fulham and norwich to do us favours because i cant see us getting anyting from the spurs game.bolton then play villa on tuesday whom i tink will beat bolton.its one thing having games in hand at this stage of the season its points on the board you we need. Bolton will have the "Fabrice Factor" which could help them but i cant see it helping them for the rest of the season. wigan D D L W 41 qpr L D L L 35 bolton D L W D W W 40 balckburn L L W L 31 This unfortunately is how i see the remaining fixtures go. the only hoep is man utd have the league won and man city have nothing to play for at the end of teh season. which may in turn be a bad thing players of that ability going out and just been allowed play with no worries.. maybe man city having to get something from the game would suit us more. We need to have the team set up in a way that we played against swansea but someone has to be there just to close the ball down all the timne dont leave them get 30 yards from our goal then start to defend (dorrans) and when we break its no good having just 2 players up there we need to pplay like wigan last night able to defend deep and then have 4-5-6 players wanting to get up the field.. its going to be very tough but hopefully my predictions are wrong....
The games can't come quick enough for me now. All this waiting around is driving me nutssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
If you'd have taken the three points at WBA, then you would have been on equal points with Wigan, with a better goal difference, as it is now, you will have to do what Wigan did last night at Arsenal, against Spurs. Spurs are not on good form lately, but harry will be looking for a reaction to that Chelsea defeat, so your game against Spurs will be your defining moment, if your players can put a a Wembley cup shift, then your in with a good chance, but your discipline, and focus will have to be top draw, Hughes will have to match Martinez in the Motivation stakes, you have the goal scores, and every player will need to put in a defensive shift too! Just my opinion, it can be done, Wigan showed you how.....................
