Why do some people class Jonas as a diver?

I've seen a quite a few comments and also heard a lot of fans from other clubs saying Jonas dives.

Yes he does make a meal of some challenges, but if you look at the video replays, every time he goes down it's when a player has tugged his shirt.

He's got good pace, good skill on the ball, and teams always pull him back to stop him making a good run forward.

He may fall dramatically, but he only does it when he's been fouled. If he didn't go down, he wouldn't get the free kicks often enough.

Wouldn't say he was a diver but when he came over here, he did dive and does play for things a lot of the time.

He doesn't dive, he just falls theatrically.

I don't think he dives at all.
He bamboozles people which draws in the foul.

Used to be a diving twat in his first couple of season. Annoyed me a lot. Still goes down very easy as well. People call him it as he has gained a reputation for it.

He doesn't go down without contact, but that doesn't mean he's not a diver. If you choose to go down when you can stay on your feet then you are a diver as far as I'm concerned, it's just not regarded as bad any more because that's how the game is played by almost everyone nowadays.

It's weird as its not very often that he'll go down without being fouled (and I mean fouled, not 'contact'), but when he goes down he doesn't throw himself he just goes limp. Lovely man.

Because he goes down easily (in good positions, conveniently), and on the odd occasion... dives. The game against Bolton there was a 50-50 between him and a Bolton player and he went down VERY VERY easily imo, and there was noone behind him (they were on about the halfway line), so remember being pretty pissed off about that one. Love him though, at the very least he doesn't whinge on to get players sent off, or pens. In fact I don't think he's won a single pen in his time with the club (although it's not like he's often in the box on the ball lol)

Dives regularly and is very very good at it too. I don't know why our fans have such a problem admitting it. I don't have a problem with it. All the teams and the majority of the players are at it so he doesn't need singled out. People need to realise he has been taught how to do it. It is considered ok in South America and is simply seen as the attacking players way of combatting the kicking they take. Jonas may dive quite a bit, but he is also kicked quite a bit. Its just in this country, you're expected to take the kicking and get on with it.

Erm, people say this because he dives... bit of a silly one considering you admit yourself that he falls over for something as soft as a shirt tug.

It's like asking 'Why do people class Cisse as a goalscorer' and then go onto say. ''I know he scores goal but he just the last person to touch the ball before it crosses the line''

    Pointless thread
