If he dives this summer the press won't bat an eyelid but because he plays for United they are calling him a diver.
If that happens I assure you I and plenty others will be embarrassed of it. It's a shame that he's not being condemned for it just because other players do it.
And Suarez, who is now been noted by refs for his diving. Carroll dived when no one even touched him.
How do you know I won't? I'm telling you I will. I wholeheartedly expect England to flop miserably anyway, but if the hypothetical situation occurred, that would be my reaction.
I couldn't give a stuff about United. I'm not a City or Liverpool fan. I just dislike firstly that he's got away with it twice in important matches and secondly that the majority of United fans bury their heads in the sand. I repeat, if he did it at Euro 2012, I wouldn't like it one bit.
Were you outraged when Helgurson flopped against Chelsea? Not as bad as either of Young's of course, but he still took a nudge, made a definite pause, and then dropped like a stone. No way the contact was enough to make him lose his balance, or even lose the ball given he was practically standing still at the time.
At the time, from my position in the stand at the other end, it looked like a definite penalty. Having had a look again on Youtube just now, and taking away the passion of the situation with it being Chelsea, I'd be disappointed in him. Obviously I'm still happy with the goal, as I'd expect you to be, but if Luiz had been sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity when he hadn't done so I wouldn't be outraged but it would have made it a hollow victory in my eyes. But, as you say, it was a far more clear incident than either of Young's and the only one of the three where you couldn't make a case against it being a foul.
Fair enough. I sit in a fairly similar place to you - disappointed Young felt the need to go down so easily, and I'd much rather we'd won the game with no controversy (although it is funny watching the steam coming out of certain people's ears as a result ). But I'm still happy with the goal. And like you say, whilst you can make a case against either of them being fouls, it isn't an absolutely conclusive case. The pundits seem split between it being an outright dive, and Young making the most of minimal contact.
