I am a cynic as far as the media are concerned i am afraid as some may have noticed. Having worked at its fringes for many many years, I ve learned how easy it can be to coordinate communications campaigns around `news` output. It is a stronger and more be believable message because those `bastions of the truth` would never lie to us would they?. Of course in reality the media has more column inches/airspace to fill than ever before and use `anything that can better sell their particular medium. Hull City will sell and I think that this a classic case of the club using the media to transmit a message of low expectation to fans and competitors. Any such board room 'spats' would never normally be conducted so publicly.
True. I get the impression from what we've heard that the players NB wants to bring in would be very good additions and might have the impact that Brown's 2008 signings did. It'll be a shame if he doesn't get any money to prove that.
100% agreed. Can you just immagine what would happen if the Allams said that Nick has a £20m quid budget ? Its best to keep whatever the kitty is secret and pleed poverty or no money. Let Adam do the deals in secret and let US ALL KNOW when the ink is dry. Much better way of doing business. From what Nick said last night to Burnsy he knows who he wants Just needs the Allams to give the green light. Thats good enough for me at the moment.
They also need to be sure what division we're going to be in before doing any deals or setting the budget. Nog good them saying our chances are gone so we're going ahead with the Championship signings and then us fluking 6th and going up through the playoffs only to find we've wasted 3 or 4 signings. (I'm thinking older heads to guide the inexperianced players through a promotion push but wouldn't cope in the PL rather than players who just aren't good enough for the PL and never will be)
more amd more frees available why this persistance to spend money our two main strikers cost upwards of £2.5m yet koren and rosenior, both in with a shout of players of the season cost, NOWT !!
Correct TWF - but wonder what their wages are compared to some of the signings under the Bartlett/Duffen regime. If that is the full statement I can also not see the point of issuing it - as it raises more questions than it was possibly looking to answer. Does anyone know if Barmby was set a target of say reaching the play-offs when he was given the job - as that seems to be one conclusion you could draw from that statement
and how much news coverage has this 'non' statement generated since it was issued? or maybe its just 'non' news? id say that with this, and nicky barmby's statement, the message they want to get through to agents and primadonna players is well and truly out!
Every window us fans always discuss the players we want and it's always players who'd cost money. These players are never the ones we go after, we always go for someone unexpected like Harper, Adebola, etc. It's because we haven't spent money. It's pretty obvious you get better players for more money. If we don't have money we can't get the players Barmby wants and it might not be any better than this season.
Without completely disagreeing (ie Harper and Adebola not being worth the effort of signing them) there aren't many better players outside the top half of the PL than Koren and Rosenior so it's not just because we never sign anyone expensive that they're up for POTY. Quality players can be found, I think I managed to make a squad I'd be confident in for the autos spending a total of about £2M on fees this summer by looking at the freebies as well. Granted there were a few loans in there as well, but there's always good loan players available at the start of a season.
I just think there are always some good players out of contract and a lot of teams wanting the best of those players. It's easy to say you can make a squad with no money but the simplest way of looking at it is that the more money you have, the more players you can choose from and the more likely you are to get a player you want. Having no money for fees will rule out maybe 80% of players, what are the chances that all the players Barmby wants are in the remaining 20%?
I think it is really interesting Barmby is still publicly asking for funds, you would think normally this would happen internally and not in the public domain. What makes it even more interesting is that Barmby's biggest ally Adam Pearson has stated there will be not too much money floating about yet Barmby is still asking. Why would these two publicly say two totally different things. I think Barmby and Pearson might be playing good cop bad cop in public to convince the Allams to cough up.
