well summed up. few clear cut chances and the few we had only one had the stones to bury it. Lallana has been criminally wasteful recently. He's had some sublime volleys and a good lob today (none gone in), but the bread and butter stuff he was scoring at the start of the season he's squandering.
Of the top of my head the headers lallanas free header the scrambled fumble inches from sharp to put home butterfield with a great chance to shoot feircely in the box and Lallanas excellent lob only denied by a great save thats six chances on top of the goal all of which could easily have gone in on another night. Also there thrid goal was when our whole team was pouring forward looking to score. I just think all this moaning is ridicolous had the bounce of the ball been different we probably would have won or we just took the first chance it would have changed everything. We played well made a couple of mistakes but were by far the better team it happens but when it does it doesnt mean its the end of the world.
I completely agree with SuperSchneid. I can't believe how negative some people are being. We outplayed Reading from start to finish and they got a very lucky win similar to ours away at leeds. These things happen sometimes in football so stop being so negative and get behind the lads for our massive game against peterborough on tuesday.
THe bounce of the ball tend to be more favourable when you are first to it and you don't wait for the opposition to build a fortress while you contemplate your next attack. We've been shown up recently that closing us down, beating us in 50-50 challenges and stretching our defence pays dividends, and we don't have an answer to it. The thing I can never work out is why every time a looping ball goes to the head of our defence we head the ball straight forward three yards and it's only ever the opposition there ready to receive it.
You mean we might now finish second and get promoted, shocking I will write and complain to Nicola...
When fans win all the time they get spoilt and then moan when their side loses and search for reasons and excuses; look at Man U, City and Arsenal - all of their managers would have been sacked by now if some of the fans had got their way!
So it doesnt matter if we lost because we played well? Thats alright then. I'll ring the football league and tell them to update the table, because Reading were "lucky" We have only managed 4 points from four games!!! I think some people need to wake up and realise we have blown it. We wont get this opportunity again. I'm bloody furious about it
Those 4 games have been very tough. Blackpool away - Chasing play offs Pompey - fighting relegation and our rivals Palace - Won. Reading- The most in form team in the league. Those games were not a given for us to take 3 points from each. I agree winning the league is difficult from here but if we win our next two we are up and would probably be going into the last day 3 points behind Reading who have Brum away. Thats not an easy fixture for them so there could be a few more twists and turn yet. What is a must though is beating Peterborough, lose that and West Ham could be level on points, which really would test our mettle.
If Reading get the title they have earned it by a fantastic run. People are moaning because we played like that and lost...would they rather we'd played crap and lost. We've been crowing all season...do you think opposition fans like it. Time to prove we support Southampton when they are temporarily down...the team believe we can win the last few games, so should we. It's easy to support a team rolling everyone over...now lets make this last push. It's not how many times you are knocked down that counts...it's how many times you get up.
Sage words from Fran, as always. Just one further thought to those who tend to worry. Most of us would have settled for a point tonight, as then WHU would need to better our results by 3 wins. Now they "only" have to do better than us by 2 wins and a draw. Let's put things into perspective.
I've said before and will say again....Football is a funny old game!! Why is it so wrong for a fan to be unhappy with a defeat? Why is it so wrong for him to air his views as to why we were defeated? Why is it so wrong for a fan to feel that the better team did not win. There again why is it so wrong for a fan to remain positive, yet be critical of those that are down hearted and expressing themselves so? The answer is it isn't wrong at all. It is just what being a Saints fan is all about......I've said it before and I'll say it again....Football is a funny old game isn't it?
LincolnSaint, Sotonist and maybe that imp lad....what depressing lives you must live! The performance was great bar a few mistakes, we are on the positive side of a 6 point swing with west ham which will see us up. Play like that in the next few games and we are up. Notice how poor the league winners always do in the prem! Reading need more reinforcements if they will want to stay up! But I like them and good luck to them. We should be joining them! Oh and COME ON BRIGHTON!!!!
We have not blown it. I suggest you calm down before posting on here because you are talking absolute nonsense. The only game we played poorly in was the Blackpool game. The Pompey and Reading games we could have won on a another day.
Sure it was disappointing to lose. 3-1 is a misleading considering our possession and shot count (and I doubt we would have conceded the third goal if we hadn't been up the pitch chasing an equaliser) We will definitely go up if we take 7 points from our last three games. Even one win from our last three games would require three wins and a draw from West Ham (or three wins and a significant shift in goal difference) Can we go up as Champions? Potentially. We're only three points behind Reading. If they slip up and we win we go back to the top. It may still go down to the last game of the season, at which point they're facing Birmingham away - not an easy match even if Brum are safely installed in the play-offs. We've got Peterborough away, Middlesborough away and Coventry at home. Peterborough are practically safe now, so don't have much to play for. Middlesborough are chasing the play-offs and will be a tough match. Coventry will hopefully be sunk by the time we play them. I suggest we all adopt Bristol City as a second team for the second half of this month. If they put clear water between themselves Coventry we'll have an easier last game of the season and if they beat West Ham they do us a massive favour.
