Sky sports claim city are going to offload Adam Johnson this summer. He would be an ideal signing in my opinion for us as he can play on the right and the left. Especially if we get in Europe. He fits the bill in terms of age but would his high wages fit the bill. Thoughts. I've always liked him as a player.

I'd prefer young Frei from Fulham to be honest even though there is probably more risk involved because of his age. But I'd never say no to Johnson. He'd be in my England side everytime. Obviously he is a luxury player and you don't get much graft from him, but I think he would excel in tournament situations. Mancinis lack of faith/wealth of options means we are still to see the best of him as he can't get any fluency in his play by playing game on game. Reminds me so much of Waddle at times. I think he'll be an outstanding buy for anyone if he does as seems likely leave. Wages will be a big issue.

He is a Newcastle fan too which doesn't hurt!

Agree with Pouch. Would prefer the kid from Fulham but would have no complaints. Pardew could surely get him working harder as a player as well.

I doubt we'll sign him, his wages are going to be rather high unless Man City offset some of them. He's still only 25 so has good experience for his age and i think he's unlucky as he was good for City when they first had him and now they only use him in fits and bursts he doesn't get the time to play to the same level (imo).

I guess if we get him i'll be happy but if we don't i wont mind. Depends alot on the figures involved, less than £10m and £50k p/w then yeah, anything over that and i'd prefer us to be spending the money elsewhere. These are the kind of signings we've tended to move away from in the last few years and its working well for us so i can't see us going back to it to be honest, hints of Duff about it all.

No hope in hell of getting that kid Frei from Fulham surely, not on our budget. As for Johnson, Mancini has complained repeatedly about his work rate and application. Who knows maybe Pardew could turn it round but how much will they be offloading him for? Will he be worth it? Are there better, cheaper options abroad?

    Depends on how much really...

I like him, he's very predictable (always cuts in on his left and shoots), but think he'd be a good addition to the squad.

That Frei lad looked mint the other night!

Think if he goes anywhere (which is unlikely) he's going to Liverpool, if you believe the rumours we've been in for him for around 2 years. He'd certainly fit our wonderful (ha) buy-British policy.

However, he signed a new contract with City back in December/January and is one of their 'home grown players' so I think he's there to stay.

I'd have him, however his wages and price will be ridiculous! Couple that with the fact he wouldn't get in our team right wing over Ben Arfa and we have a problem.

I doubt many players would leave City because their wages are far too high.

a couple of pertinent points lads:

    - He's apparently a lifelong Toon fan
    - Mancini may be gone by the summer so things may change

I'd therefore take him if it was on a 12 month loan (citeh paying 50% of his wages) and then we can have a closer look at him.

Was gonna suggest a loan deal actually, but would he come?

He was signed right at the start of the new era at Citeh, only on 50k or so (perhaps a bit more with bonuses etc.) However, if we were able to offer him more game time, so he has a better chance of getting into the Eng squad, I'm sure he'd take a pay cut, not to mention he's a fan.

Certainly 12-month loan, view to buy for 5mill or so?

Is he a fan though because again I've had Sunderland fans telling me they have seen interviews with him saying he was a Mackem fan as a kid. They reckon he admitted watching us in the Keegan years but never said he supported us. Not that it really matters but I was pretty sure I saw an interview where he said NEwcastle were his team. And did he did not make a big point that he was supporting his ex club Boro when they met the mackems recently?

Can someone not tweet him (I'm not part of the Twitterati) and just get a definitive answer?

He said, although his family were Mackems he watched - and ultimately ended up supporting - Newcastle because of the Entertainers and Ginola

That's what I thought but it is hard to find any trace of that interview. As I say I'd tweet him to get the definitive answer but I'm not a twitty twatter!

Apparently he's only on £50k a week which is within budget...

If we make 4th place surely we could coax him? CL team to CL team.

Now we are talking. I think hes a possibility and would add depth to the squad.

I did hear hes a bit of a drinker mind. Likes his beer apparently so he sould fit in just nicely with Cashley.
