I'm happy if we finish 5th but I can't help but want 3rd.

I kind of agree with Tash in that 5th is ideal, 4th brings in the big bucks, the big names and the big media attention, but it also leads to higher expectation and higher pressure. If we **** up, its further to fall!

Naaa, I reckon we'll be everyone's favourite underdogs if we reached the CL. The Europa would kind of be a middling mess which would be great to win, but no one would pay much attention to it. No one'll expect us to progress in the CL, a bit like when Blackpool were on the Prem. As long as we don't get properly smashed in every CL game it'll be amazing, just for the kudos it'll bring the cub.

I just got a kick out of an article today which said that Arsenal's result last night had been a welcome boost in their race with Spurs and Newcastle for 3rd. Until that moment it had never occured to me that we were in that race:
    5th ? sure. 4th ? ok kind of. 3rd ? never, ever, ever

Agree with this, CL would bring in the big bucks and there would be no pressure given how unexpected it would be. I hope it'd mean we could also keep some of our big players (Tiote, Ba).

Europa league would be more of an annoyance - mid-week games, a distraction from the league, not too much extra money, and still vulnerable to losing our best players. The only advantage I think would be that our younger players would get more games and more experience.

    - Finish 3rd/4th
    - Get to CL group stages
    - Finish 3rd and drop down to Europa
    - Bank the CL money
    - Have a fair crack at winning a European trophy
    - Top players cup-tied for CL football during the january window

    now that would be ace.

I still think we'll be 6th, and Everton in Europe via the cup. We'll sell one or two big names for big money, pick up some new unknown players, and another season of top half table awaits.
