    Chaps,
Is it me or has our injury record been much better this season than in recent years?
If it is, what do you think is the reason.
I think it has been better and the reason is down to the better training facilities and maybe signing less injury prone players...

I think that it has been a bit better but mostly that we have simply coped with it so you notice it less. Just off the top of my head so not particularly accurate:

Saylor - out for half the season
Colo - Two injuries in the season
    Tiote - out september/october
Raylor - out for ages, not sure how long but months it seems
Cabaye - out on two seperate occassions?
Obertan - out for a couple of months
    Best - Out for months
Sam Ameobi - Out for half the season

Gosling, Guthrie - i think both had injuries?

Add in the effect ramadan had on Tiote and Ba and then the ACON and i think that alot of it is just how we've not let it affect us so much. Realistically at the start of the season if we'd been told we'd have to play a few games with Perch and Willo at centre back we'd expect a pummelling every match.

Don't forget Marveaux, Willo's two/three month absence and Ben Arfa's injury set-back in pre season.

It's actually been a pretty bad season for injuries. Its just that a lot of the players who might have been fighting for first team places last season are now the back up, which has helped immeasurably. If Best was fit, we could be looking at him and Shola as back up strikers. Last season when they were our first choice and were injured, we started a game with Ranger and brought on Kuqi  That's unbelievable looking back.

Been slightly better but not enough you could put it down any improvements at the training ground. We've still had plenty of long term ones, and a good smattering of short term ones. I think they've been managed better is the reason for the small reduction. We have not gambled on players fitness as much, Pardew happier to put his faith in the squad. Some of that comes from him feeling we have a stronger squad this year so he feels less worried when he has to change. As is always the case though, when you get on a little run like the one we had at the start, players seem to get through the games better.

Yeah ive been thinking about this. We have been fairly fortunate with injuries, especially in comparison to our usual state of affairs. Even benni has come back seemingly stronger and there were obviously no guarantees there.... Pardew and the medical staff have to take a lot of credit as the gradual increase of playing time worked perfectly. Saylor obviously a big miss but we have coped more than well, same with colo being out sporadically. All in all its a lot better than in the past.

A bit better but players that have come in have done a good job, so we have coped well.

Can't believe i forgot about Marveux - honestly think he'll come back well for us next season, mark my words he'll be like a new signing and (in the same way as Benni) appreciate the club a touch more for the help and patience.

I think we've managed them alot better so you just don't notice it as much, you only really talk about injuries and suspensions when you're doing badly or you haven't got cover. We've just carried on business as usual.

And even Santon too, he had his recurring knee problems at the start of his move, and even then people thought we'd sign another crocked player(see Gosling)!

aye thats what i was getting at. People like Santon and Ba as well with supposed debilitating/career threatening injuries, havent had any problems. Forgot all about marveaux though, looks like a player with great potential , seemed to have great passing ability and one of the best deliveries of the whole team.

At least we're top of one table eh! This is just adding gloss to our impressive current form. All done with the worst injury list in the league.

Yeah was about to post the phyiotable.

Only reason we're not complaining is everyone who has come in has done (practically) a better job than the person they replaced. Perch Willo, Guthrie Raylor? Ben Arfa only started playing regularly after Obertan got crocked so... yeah. No to the OP!
