    Right lads, I'm going to go ahead and say it, we've got 15 points left to play for and are 12 points ahead of Everton, 6th place is nailed on! Unfortunately for us, we'd have to rely on Everton to lose to Liverpool in the cup and even then play a punishing schedule of games to get into the bigger European nights...

    5th place is ours to lose, plain and simple - if we amass the same number or more points than Chelsea we keep it.

    4th place is a possibility, we have the form and the confidence whilst Spurs seem to be nose-diving!

    People have discussed the implications of European football, compared ourselves to Fulham and Stoke who seemed to have suffered because of the rigors, but if we push all the 'are we good enough'/'is our squad big enough' thoughts out of mind...I just want to know what the financial implications will be for finishing 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd (where we'd be joint with had we not conceded that late goal against Arsenal)...

    I'll make a basic mock up and people can correct or suggest in the comments:

    Lets say TV brings in a basic flat fee of £30m with £0.45m facility fee every time we're shown live (we'll be fairly popular as a top 4 side) lets say £10m

    Each finishing position is worth aprox. 0.75m, so adding that together with the basic stuff and you're looking at:

    6th = £50.5m
    5th = £51.25m
    4th = £52m
    3rd = £52.75m

    If we qualify for the Europa League, we get very little in the way of financial gain from the actual competition with the winner only receiving a few million euros. But added TV rights from Channel 5 etc. plus win bonuses, I'd say getting to the last 32 could bring us in around £4m altogether.

    If we qualify for the Champions League AND make it to the group stages we can be looking at:
    a minimum bonus payment of €7.2m, a group payment of €3.9m and a match bonus of €3m (€0.5m each match). That means, even if we lose EVERY SINGLE GAME of the group stages, we'll earn a minimum of around £9.5m

    So, from the very limited, basic googling, cutting and pasting I just did, it would appear that the difference between 4th and 6th could be as much as Papis Demba Cisse!

    6th could be worth an extra £30m to us - as not qualifying for Europe would no doubt result in the sale of one or two big players...

    lol, to be honest, I expected the figures to be much higher, I've heard people in the past say that Champions League is worth £40m and the difference between Premier League and Championship football is £90m, but I couldn't find any stats or facts to back that up! I think Manure get an average of £47m but that's because of how far they go in the competition, tv rights, ticket sales and how many wins they amass!

    So what you're saying is, we could win the league next year with the extra money..................I agree <laugh> In case you're wondering, yes I have gone mental. There is not enough oxygen at these heights and the brain can behave abnormally.

    As tash mentioned Tchoi cost us a lot of money last season.
    On the squad depth issue, I think we should be looking to add 4-5 players this summer. I think we have the resources to spend about 20 - 25 mill (especially if we do qualify for europe.)

    Getting into Europe of any sort adds value in that we may be able to sell the stadium rights to some business that is respectable.

    Get rid of spam direct.

    Seriously though its not just the income from tv rights etc that will increase it will increase a number of revenue streams from advertisement and sponsorships.

    we'd be clear third had we not conceded that last minute goal at Arsenal.
    Europe wouldn't bring much in the way of extra finances from sponsorship because our current deals with Puma and Virgin still have a season to run.
    Unless there is a bonus attached for European qualification.
    Stadium naming rights might go but if we're on £5m from both Puma and Virgin together I can't see us getting anything like £10m just for the name.
    Should we progress next season and get Europe then a bumper income might happen.

    Yeah, the 2nd year will be really tough, let's not forget there's another ACoN to contend with!
